Historically, I have always been very happy and usually exclusively bought Pioneer products......but no longer making a "marine" unit although it is cabin mounted so don't really care about non-marine. No wired remotes produced either.
I have bought several boats/vehicles that contained Sony receivers....I hated every one so I am leery about the Sony unit mentioned above although I do like the features. Unfortunately Sony has also dropped their marine wired remotes.

As cheap as the single DIN's are now days, I wouldn't worry if it's marine or not, you can buy 2 or 3 Pioneers, Alpines, etc for the cost of some of the "marine" units. I agree with you on the Sony, but they do have a decent FM tuner, as does the Pioneer and the Pioneers are easier to use and do have a nicer sound IMO....I'm a dinosaur I know, but I am way out in the sticks in Arkansas and I love to listen to Royals games with the hometown announcers. It seems like I'm changing out stereos every year these days.

Looks like I can still use the Clarion MF1 RF remote because it just has a 3.5mm connection along with any other wired remote that has the same 3.5mm connection. My OCD just hates mis-matched/branded components haha. The rest of my stereo is all Polk DB series and I am very happy with it. 2-class D amps all wired in 2 ohm resistance, subs 1 ohm. 4-6x9, 4-6.5", 2-12" subs. The clearness and cleanliness of sound is incredible with these speakers even with a crappy Sony head unit although bass without the subs was mediocre.
