Up front - I am a complete novice from the UK and am not technical! A friend of mine has a 5.0 Mercruser EFI V8 2000. For some reason, it had the serial number erased off the block. The engine developed a problem two years ago and it has been tinkered with by 4 different marine engineers who claim they are experts. No one has managed to fix it. One took the ECU off the engine and mistakenly replaced it with an ECU for a 4.3 V6 (confirmed by the serial number on the ECU). Obviously it now doesn't work and unfortunately, this marine engineer cannot now find the original ECU! I also have a 5.0 Mercruiser EFI V8 - 1998. We have tried taking it off my boat and putting on his but the design has changed and it wont fit. Would it be possible to copy the code from mine and upload it to the 4.3 ECU on his engine t convert it to an ECU for a 5.0? I would appreciate any help or advise that anyone could give me. Cheers.
