Hello, I bought a Chart plotter GPS for my Scarab 33 AVS stepped hull.

but have read that the transom mount transducer will not work with stepped hull. I can get a thru hull or something else or ???

My current step hull has the transducer actually through the hull and it works great at most speeds. My depth finders on previous step hull boats never worked above a fast idle. One was transom mounted, and the other was shooting through the fiberglass.

My old ('02) 35' Lightning (twin step) had a transom mount transducer for a Garmin. It worked fine (mph) up to about 40 mph. Wife liked it cause it had a water temp reading too. LOL

Where did you mount the transducer? I was gonna put mine between out drives.

Between the drives, but to the inside of the starboard drive - I believe it was level with the notch. I didn't install it, was already on boat when I purchased. It was a paddle wheel style which down transducer. I guess for water speed ?? ...it did show water/current speed on the garmin, as well as boat speed.

The transducer has to be forward of the step in order to read reliably. The step works by introducing air to decrease the wetted surface of the Hull. Transducers can't shoot through air.

I've not seen any on a powerboat that work reliably. Setting still, great! 30~40 mph, great. Above that, NG. ..whether mounted in front of the step or on the transom.

My current one (factory installed) is in front of the steps and it seems to work the same as the 35' mounted on the transom.
