I doubt you can make it work.
NMEA0183 is a mess. See the thread I created about hooking up a newer Garmin GPS to Mercury Smartcraft. |

Curious if anyone has any advice for my wiring. I have a Garmin 741 XS and a Livorsi GPS speedo, Garmin works great but cant get the speedo to work. I have the blue wire from the Garmin hooked to the white wire from the speedo and when turning the GPS on the speedo cycles, goes to the 9 oclock position and after GPS signal is required speedo goes to zero or jumps to around 4 mph and will not read speed? I do not see where i can change the output settings on the GPS, I have the same setup as this thread starter and do not see a solution in this string. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

Are you dealing with the Livorsi antenna that died because of the non-replaceable battery?
If so, just remove it and replace it with this: |
wieland, does the back of your speedo look like this ? which white wire are you using

Yes, exactly. I had an older Garmin GPS 180 that I had prior hooked to the speedo and it worked perfectly. The new 741 XS i wired the same way, blue wire from Garmin to white wire from speedo and it doesn't work.

My old one was a 180 also, are you using the white wire in the big plug or the single small one........
|
