Does anyone know what the foam pad is for that comes in the box?

I think I just figured it out as I was taking the pic. I think just the outer part is used if you surface mount the unit. Weird that it's never mentioned in the manual.
edit: just found it on a separate sheet. I was right about what it's used for. Thanks for the response.

Yes there is a "gasket" that is used when surface mounting. And it is thin foam.
