And to add to what Artic is saying, this implies you can see the .bin file, and if so just get the wide band data and tune away on the fuel tables. The MEFI 1 will in no way load into the MEFI 3....well it might but it won't run as the memory addresses will be FUBAR from the ECMs perspective.

do I need mefi burn to see if it’s locked or not.

Yes, you will need a tuning program/software and connection cord to see IF its locked. If it IS locked, thats where the usefulness off your new tuning software and cord will pretty much end. Does ecm have a sticker or hand writing on back?

The chance your ecm is unlocked are about 10 or 20%, if there's NO hand writing or aftermarket sticker on back, the chances its locked are 99.9%, If you want to send your ECM to my shop, for a small cursory fee/return s/h I can tell you if its unlocked, Smitty
