no insurance for a cat

I am still having issues finding insurance for a 28 eliminator daytona. I was told there is only one or two company's that still insure and they raised there rates a great deal. I recieved a quote of 7k. Do you think they may just not insure Cats all together which will hurt the resale of cats or if they raise the rate it so high it will do the same thing. Any help would be great.

I still really want to buy a cat but insurance is making it harder and harder.

Sorry to butt in guys...but does anyone know anything about this boat. I was going to take a trip to Texas to check it out, but thought that I would try to find out more before I left from NC

If you decide to move up and get rid of your 28 I would like a shot. I called Robert a little too late when he sold it.

I go through Nationwide. You tell them the insured value you want, dont tell them that it is a cat, tell them that it has a stock motor. They wont insure anything over 50 miles per hour, so that is what you tell them. My '99 was around $300 a month. It works out well.

works out great as long as you don't have a claim.

Re: no insurance for a cat

This is true. But my agent (who advised me on this) said that if you have the cost of the boat insured under the primary policy, then you can always have a rider to cover add ons (including engine). Thankfully I have never had to test this theory.

However, on a smaller scale, I did something similar with my jetskis. They wont insure anything over 35 mph. I put one on the highway, tore it all to hell, and they covered it for the whole value.

I guess that this is not the best way to go, but its kind of like Olde English...it get the job done. Plus, at my age you never think that anything is going happen. Maybe Ill get wise with age.

If things don't work out with the 25 in Texas I have a '98 with a 502mpi all stock. I would sell. I live in Ohio. If you are interested I could send you some photos.

I would be VERY careful about getting insurnce with them. I would call the insurance commissioner in your state for some research before giving any money.

Dont lie to the companies. I had a friend with Allstate and there attourneys said if they found any lies on the policy it's no good. His Daytona was stolen and they pain out 130 grand! Now after that happened a couple of times they won't insure anything over 65mph. Thank god I used them before all that. I pay 499 per year!!! Only a $1000 deduct!!!!

I'm currently looking at open bow cats in California. I talked to my State Farm rep and he said all he needed was the horsepower, size of boat, and brand. I told him 470 HP, 26 ft and Howard. He gave me a quote of $750.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks,
Bill

If you dont mind me asking what do you pay a year and what deductable ? I am looking at buying a 28 with 496's as well. Are you happy with the boat? What speed did you get out of the stock power?

Re: no insurance for a cat

That was in 2001 and I think they were 330 HP. Never had it on the water with those engines, just paid the insurance while I was rigging the boat. I think it was ~$800. I have a pair of 625 hp engines now and I'm with Worldwide Marine.

Love the boat. I bought it after riding in a friends. We do 3 or 4 pokerruns a year and take several weekend trips a year that are around 300 miles long.

So, getting a boat under the 100mph is still a problem getting insurance? I was looking at some of the Daytonas with single engine applications, not crazy either 496H0, and the insurance is still hard to get? My Spectre was low 7K thats why its gone...Do I need to be looking at V's?

I did not have a problem when I switched ALL my insurance over to a new company with my boat included.

I think its worth every dollar either way. who wants to boat sea sick style anyway? If you boat in the mid west such as inland lakes and rivers I have a contact and they are at 900 bucks for a 27 daytona. The same for a buddies 26 daytona, but they dont do the coast or lake X. Oh and my 27 daytona is for sale.

By the way, I too have heard a few stories of the IWSF. Do a good internet search and you will find Cease and Desist orders against them. I have heard that they will be quick to cover small deals but be careful with whole boat claims.

They are too cheap to believe considering the other quotes I was getting when I was thinking about getting a cat. They will insure you in states where they are not licensed to insure you. This is a serious issue.
