I am rookie in this sport and I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a 27 Daytona with 525 merc and sportmaster shortie drive. I have a 4 blade 28 pitch prop. How can I get a rooster tail; Do I have to change the drive or the prop???? Thanks

I am getting 87mph at 5200rpm. I think I am changing to a 30 lab finished. Should put me at 90.

labbing the 28 may work. rev limit is at 5450 rpm. What gears are you using?

Sorry, I am a little embarrassed but I dont know what gears I am running. I do know I am running a sportmaster drive (shortie). I am still in breaking so maybe after breaking in I will hit max rpm. I am trying out soon a Lab finished 30 so hopefully that will help. Thanks

Put the tabs down, trim up the drive to about 50% or so and it should work.

The gear ratio should be on a sticker on the side of the drive.

I dont have a tab on mine but there is cats that have a center tab.

Rooster tails are a due to the drive height/prop style. On my 25, its due to the black hawk drive being mounted way up there. more prop out of the water than in. click signature link to see what I mean. Trimming for a tail is a waste of power and hard on the drive train. don't do it.
