What Causes Hubs to Wear So Fast

So, OK - I am a newbie. Just had my '07 28 with 496 HO's in for the 20 hr break in service - and was told that my hubs were so worn that I was hours from the splines breaking straight through, and I would lose propulsion - this was true on both drives.

What am I doing to cause such advanced wear?

was not aware the operator could cause them to go bad always thought it was poor alignment

which "hubs" are you referring to?- something sounds off- warranty related and need to find the root cause and fix what you're seeing

CHECK YOUR MOTOR MOUNTS MAIN STUD, SEE IF MOTOR DROPPED DOWN. IF SO HAVE THEM DOUBLE NUT AND TONS OF RED LOCKTITE TO STOP FROM DROPPING NOTHING ELSE WORKS. :evilb:

Re: What Causes Hubs to Wear So Fast

the hub\coupling wear is caused by misalignment of the engine and drive.

Are you talking about engine couplers or prop hubs? If you have only 20 hours and our talking about couplers then you more than likely have an alignment issue. That is why pad mounts should not be used in boats running over 80mph.

OK - it's the brass fitting that the hub slides over. A few of the ribs have portions cracked off. I have attached a picture here - to hopefully clarify.

What do you guys think? Is this my driving, alignment, or something else?

Got to keep the props in the water, load and unload at high rmps will cause this!Dont just go full stick and hold on,you need to constintly adjust throttle for boat leaving and entering water and pay real attention on rough days! Also do a walk around the boat befor you launch and inspect everthing such as tightness of props etc!Good luck!
