Driveability Of 27 Daytona.input Please
I've been going to put this out there for a while now.I've started racing my 27.I entered in my first ever round of The Australian Offshore Powerboat Championship in Production unlimited class.I turned up not knowing what to expect. There were 3 Class 1 boats,2 were 45 Skaters. All were capable of around 150 MPH.There were about 12 cats in my size range 25-30.All with the exception of mine clamp on powered. From what i believe most were old design Skaters and Victory cats. These other cats were in 2 classes,6 litre and 4 liter.200's or 300's basically. The fastest tops out around 105.Now to my questions. In that race i was running 100 at 5500rpm and just over half throttle.Remember it is an offshore race, had about 2 1/2 footers and other boat wakes so not too rough.I have heaps left but have not been game enough to "go for it".At what speed should i feel unsafe. At 100 it felt fine.We were getting a bit of air but at no time did i feel out of control.Obviously conditions are the determining factor.A few fittings came loose.Maybe there is no answer to what i'm asking but it's always in my head. How far can i push it?The next round is 3 weeks away.Race distance is a 85 mile circuit.

How far can you push it? As far as your pockets are deep...... High speeds >100, 2-3 footers or better, over 5.5k for 85 miles = bad things for most boats. There's a reason most racers are running O/B's. Hope your drive isn't Bravo based. It definately won't like those conditions.
Take plenty of time to learn the boat and it's limits and quirks. I've had high speed cats for 9 years now and they still do things that get my attention. Be safe out there. Sounds like fun!

100+ , half throttle on a single engine 27' Daytona, must one heck of a powerplant.
Not to mention the boat in your avitar looks to be an open bow , am i wrong ?
Glad to hear you had fun - be careful at those speeds in the open ocean...

Yes Dave it's an open. The lower is a 1:27,2" shorty and currently have a 34 Bravo.Motor made maximum at 6200rpm.Rev limiter is set at 5800.I need more pitch. It just seems to have so much go.Much more than i thought.
