I ran a 28 pitch 4 blade on a 1.36 ratio drive on my 25 with around 620hp for reference.

boat has seen 104 on the gps once and normally 96-98, came out the hole just fine. Mid range punch was incredible. Most of my drive issues were related to the lake I used the boat on. LOTO.
Ive since sold it and moved on the 30 I have now.

Easing on plane AND minimize high speed prop surfacing. I have always eased on plane, but run in the rough lake Ontario snot - very difficult to get off the throttles quick enough in the snot when one side wiggles out of the water - much easier if we were running in predictable swells or flat water.
Unfortunately, I burned through 3 XR style drives this summer -but they were IMCO - they were replaced with Teagues late in the year - that combined with me taking it a bit easier on rougher days - and my drive oil changes have been clean and green since.

Very true about the holeshot, I added the large Dana tabs to my 25, which helped immensely. Oh, I was running a 2 inch shorter lower also.
