25 Eliminator - West coast advice needed
For a 25 Eliminator, what would be the ideal motor for it? (this is a sincere question) Would a 500 EFI be ok or would it be a dog with a single 500?
I see quite a few with 700HP and 800HP motors but of course then there is the dependability factor. For a west coast boater (obviously different conditions then east coast) what would be the ideal set up? The other question; do most people run a standard bravo XR or a shorty? |

If you are talking daytona, I would want atleast a 525. My daytona is set up with a 625 ilmor/xr/imco -2 shorty. Boat runs mid 90's. A well setup 525 merc boat will run 85-88mph.
A 500 efi with a whipple would be fun also. |

Which eliminator model?
Uncle Dave Cat, Daytona Tall deck, 1/4 canopy, closed front |
Gino, a 25 daytona with a 500efi will run right around 81 to 83 mph with a 1.5 bravo spinning a 28.
A 525 will run 83 to 85 ish with a 1.36 spinning a 28 or a 1.5 spinning a 30. 600hp will net you around 88 to 90. A 500efi / whipple kit will run lo to mid 90's A 900 :) will get you over 110. Drive length depends on where they cut the hole. Eliminator seems to range up and down about an inch but most are delivered with a standard length drive and the transom assembly touching the rub rail. I run a -1 SC lower on a SCX drive on mine for all around drivability. Yes, it would probably pick up 5mph with a -2 but -2's tend to be a little tough to plane but work well once up and over. |

It dosen't matter, if i put a 500, 525, or 700 , in a few months I'll be putting a 1,550 sterling in it! :drink: |
Nordic Thor runs better and looks better also.

I have a local to me 25' with a factory installed teague 900 and its a solid 120+ boat. My boat with 600 hp runs over 90 even with 5 people. http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/a...999/speedo.jpg http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/a...ept2010039.jpg |

I don't believe it would. Only an Arneson would hold the power, as a #6 or M8 wouldn't work on this boat.

There are a few number 6 25 daytonas out there. A 1550 would certainly be DEATH and I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the test pilot.
1300 ran 144 and change and Bob Teague said he wouldn't want to do it again :) PS, CLA, I said "over 110" :) |

The Arneson is definitely cool and would handle that power. Ive seen a few cats that size with v drives that will handle anything. Uncle Dave |
We have a 25 that runs a TCM800 carb, and Bravo xr reworked and geared by savage marine w/ full imco steering and have never had a problem... boat runs 95 to 100 based on conditions and prop....
The 25 does seem a little lite at speeds over 80, and we are interested in a 27 to 30, for a more stable ride in rougher conditions...... |

Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me? The hull just starts working nicely at 80mph. It runs dead nuts stable at 100. At least, thats what over 400 hrs of seat time driving mine in all kinds of different conditions tells me.

The 25s a beautiful boat,,, and mayb you feel comfortable at higher speeds ,, but I don't... its personal opinion... I have 335hrs driving the boat,,, and in my OPINION, I have to be very alert at higher speeds in a 25..... I've been in a 30 at 100+ and you feel like your going 65.... HUGE difference in handling bwtn a 25 and 30.. Im done with this....bye
You can provide at least ONE picture can't you????? |
I wouldnt mind seeing a few pictures of everyones 25.

I really must admit, I just read this thread:
Airpacker: very good info...you obviously havn't met pokerrun388. He's the most knowledgeable member on the board. He's logged more hours than Johnny T....he knows everything..."why not run a t-53 turbine in the eliminator over a sterling with a nxt combination...i bet it would run great...then you could fly it to the moon!" Pokerrun: this just goes to show how much of an idiot you are....he just called you out....you feel you have to be more alert at 100? I would love to be in la la land like you, but seriously...YOU HAVE TO BE ALERT IN ANY BOAT OVER 80MPH...(ALL SPEEDS FOR THAT MATTER)......you've just shown everyone how full of it you are...you remind me of that idiot who flipped the 36 skater with 10 or so people on board, people sitting on each others laps no life jackets...at 140mph...another genius...BRAGGING ABOUT IT...just like you, he didn't know what he was doing...thankfully no one was hurt... 48 Outerlimits? You go buy one hot shot...we'd all love to see it...only reason you said that is so you'd look cool and people would think you were actually upgrading to it...you have no intention nor the means to jump into that, and if you think 100 is fast...I think a 48 would be much too much power for you. I guess in larger boats you don't have to be alert, as just stated by our fearless and brilliant leader...this guy is like a piece of corn stuck in your teeth... I hear bayliners are rock solid at 22mph, buy one of those and go hang out on e-dock..they'd LOVE you there.. Sorry, I just had to jump in here and say, I got my laugh for the night.. Gino: good luck! Everyone else: cheers! |

Help with engine for Mid Cuddy?
Just found this post and thought you guys might be able to help.
I am looking to buy a 2008 26FT Mid Cuddy Eliminator with no power. I do not need to go 100+, but want to make sure I put the best power/value motor in the boat. What do you guys recommend? Brian |
