Default 1999 33 Daytona Props

Looking for 33 owners who have played around with props...... Have a 1999 with about 900 HP per side with Bravos and extension boxes.... 1,5 gears

Was playing around today for the first time testing and on the limiters 6,000 rpm running 96.3 mph...... think was only around 3/4 throttle

The current props are bravo 4 blade 30p

So looking for suggestions.... Pitch to try? type? blade 4 or 5??

Thanks

2004 33 Daytona 598 N/A aprox 900HP 6500 max rpm, extension boxes, Bravo XR, -2 IMCO shorties 1.25 gears, 32 pitch labbed bravo ones 133+ . Bravo one drives need special setup and custom shafting to live under these conditions and Bravo props need special attention when labbed and surface piercing so they don't break blades!! If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Rob

Just realized you were asking 4 or 5 blade. STAY AWAY FROM 5 BLADE! You will get faster top end from 4 blade and 5 blade hook up so good in the mid range you will most likely blow the gears while at cruise speed! Just my advice

I had a 1999 33 and spent a lot of time and money on setup and props. My 33 had the updated bottom and still had a nasty porpoise between 85-120 and a outside lean between 45-70 MPH.

That said, currently your slip is around 15% which is not great for a twin engine deal. Sounds like your x dimension is pretty high and/or you are running a lot of positive trim at higher speeds. I tried every conceivable prop back in the day and the Mercury Bravo 4 blades seemed to be the best all around. The 32 and 36 pitch props are good props. The 34 Bravos are terrible. Given your gear and HP I would suggest bolting a pair of 36 Bravos on it.

Does your boat have a bad hop developing around 85 mph? I had big HP in my boat and it was nearly impossible to drive thru the hop in smooth water. In 2-3 chop I could drive thru it and the boat would settle down around 125 MPH. I was talking to a really smart boat guy a few weeks ago and he felt that the 33 Daytona porpoise might be able to be improved greatly with some custom props with added rake. He also thought that the perfect fix for the older 33 boats would be an SCX drive with #6 props with 18 or 20 degree rake props might solve the hop issue.....

Lastly, is your bottom unmodified? You can tell by if it still has the huge vented steps. If it still has the huge vented steps I suggest you consider filling them in with an insert to create a more traditional, small step. This is worth approx 10 MPH and will settle the boat down a lot. The rest of the bottom mod's are significant and require the boat to go upside down and those mods have little effect on the hop and slow/mid speed outside lean. The single best bottom mod is filling in the huge vented steps.

Good luck. I love the old school hot rod look of the older Daytona's!

Hope this helps.
