I looked at buying a single engine 28 and a triple OB 28 before I bought one with twins. With a single, you will need big hp to cruise at a good riding speed and you will need a heavy duty outdrive like a B-Max, IMCO or Max Works. Mine is a tall deck and the low profile is much lighter.

Are you looking at the low profile or tall deck?

Tall deck would be preferable, more useable cabin space is a plus!!

LIMNATR,

The 28 tall deck really needs to cruise at a minimum of 55 mph to stay on top of the wate and to stay dry, but it really likes 70 and above. I fugured it would take single a 900 hp power to cruise at a speed it likes without running it to death.

If you are going with big hp, having 2 engines should prevent you from being towed in, if an engine or drive breaks.

I don't know what it would be like getting on plane with a single big hp engine and a big prop. I rode in a 28 twin with 454 mags that did 83 - 85 right off the show room floor with no mods.

There are some single engine 28s out there, but I haven't seen one run. I won't buy one until I road in one.

What is it you want to do? Go 100? Be reliable? Tinker on it?

I have a 30' Cobra cat single 700+ 100mph. If I were to do it again I would think long and hard at a 28-30' Daytone with twin small blocks. Light weight, 310HP stock, fuel efficient, cheap, etc. If you want more later then add whipples and make 450hp and have a 100+ mph package that will never break, only need oil changes and run every weekend.

I have a 28 tall deck with twin 500 efi's. I really love the boat but as usual I am interested in moving up--- to a 36 daytona I hope!!
The boat runs excellent and I am very happy with the construction, quality, and how the boat handles. It does like it about 70+ mph.
With my wife (110Lbs) and me (175 lbs) all gear, life jackets, ice chest, extra stuff my wife brings, and 120+ gallons of fuel on GPS it runs right at 97 to 98 MPH.

I am always ready to give someone a ride if your in the area next spring!

Hi Steve, hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Yep, the gremlins are gone. There wasn't a problem with the motor, it was all in the supercharger. Sent that back to The Blower Shop (TBS) and they repaired it at no charge. Ron and Marve are really super nice guys. They have taken good care of me I have nothing but good things to say.

We've tested (me and the crew) and the results are in the 130's.
It's a shame I didn't get to participate at LOTO. I would have had something for those boys. If all goes well, we will be there next year with a bunch of the Virginia boys who have some super fast boats as well. Already looking forward to it.

Have put her to bed for the winter.

Haven't had time to check out OSO much to chat. Work is super! I am busy as all get out. Repairing heating systems over the winter. Bring on the cold (WHHEEEEWWWW)

Had surgery on my shoulder today, am home for this week. My arm is in a sling so no typing. Give me a holla sometime.

Later.
SAM

Hello To All OSO Boys and Girls. Secret Agent is back and working on a new mission. HEHE
