Upgrading 27 Daytona
I bought a 1997 Eliminator Daytona 27' this past spring, I have found that the hull suits my needs very well. But as always I want it to go faster! I have twin 454 Mag Carbs that are low hour and run well. Has anyone had experience with this hull with more horsepower? I have already ordered some Dana exhaust and crossovers. Considering blowers, but I want to know how this hull will respond to horsepower. Right now 75.9 mph @4700 rpm on GPS. Great ride in Poker Run. Ran her hard, handled the worst chop great. I know this is a heavy hull. Never actually seen another or talked to anyone except Eliminator about them. Let's wake up this site.....Eric

Re: Upgrading 27 Daytona
Merlin,
Thanks for the reply, glad you enjoyed yours that is up until it sank! I guess maybe I need to forget the motor upgrades and invest maybe in an inflateable to carry along. But more seriously, how did the hull fail, how did the boat handle at 100 mph, how much horsepower do you think would take to get to 100mph. Did you have any tab(s)? I'm in Bowling Green, KY and boat at Cumberland. THANKS, Eric |
Re: Upgrading 27 Daytona
about 750 per side should do it and it was stable at 100 my 27 had imco boxes and 2" shorties spinning hydro 30 4 blades w/1.36 gears at 6900 rpm. it was a screamer and it pulled like a freight train. seeya :drink:

Re: Upgrading 27 Daytona
This is an old post, but I'll add to it anyway. We owned a '89 27 daytona. We ran it with stock 502's. I think they were 415hp. It ran about 80 from sun rise to sunset for the 5 years we owned it. Before we owned it, my uncle experimented with 454's with twin turbo's. About 650hp each. It went 106 on radar.
