State Farm insured mine when it had stock power for less than $1k.

I have Worldwide now and my rates (>$3k) are the same up to 120mph.

Anyone know how fast the 28 would be with 300 outboards?

I have a 1988 27 Daytona , which is the same hull as the 28. I repowered last year with 04 300x's and am getting 90mph on fresh water. I had some minor engine issues that turned out to be bad spark plugs for part of the summer and would hope that 95 mph can be reached in the spring.

I called Ace today and they said they would not insure anything that went 95 mph. Did you tell them that your boat would go this fast????? Eric

I have a correction on the phone number: It's McGriff, Siebels and Williams, Inc. which is the agency for ACE call 800-937-8895.
Just called these guys minutes ago, they started taking my info, I mentioned Eliminator, max speed 72-73, they said they will not insure an Eliminator that goes over 60. She said she has worked there for over 7 years and they have never insured performance boats. They do insure through ACE but never use their performance boat programs.

Interesting!

I must be a real IDIOT because I am paying over 3K per year and only found one company in the country that would insure my 28 daytona twin HP 500's. As for speeds the math just does not add up. The guy with the 28 with twin 496 HO's said he has 1:36 drives no boxes and is turning Bravo 30p and is hitting the rev limiter & has a best speed of 92 GPS. I am not sure where the limiter is on those motors but on the HP 500's it is at 5300. My best speed is @ 5150 with the same gearing and props and is 95 on a Livorsi gps spedo. So the rev limiter on the 496 hos must be at 5000 ?

So many factors to look at: My best speed of 93 mph was obtained with all conditions just right, low fuel, very cool, perfect ripple, just two guys and lots of trim.

Rev limiter on the 496 HO is 5150. If the 92 gps guy is getting 92 at 5150 and you're getting 95 at 5150 then he's slipping more, obviously. Also, when you start getting that technical over 100-150 rpm's on top end, then you could start getting into tachs being off and undertrim and overtrim. I'd say if you can run 95 with a load in your set up, then you're doing good. To be honest, there's probably a good 5 mph diff between a 500EFI vs. 496 HO 28 TD Daytona set up identically. I just bought a pair of Hydromotive 29p P5X's and hopefully they will help out a lot.
