Curiosity got the best of me and I had to inquire. From the owner...

The top speed that we have seen is 68 mph on the GPS. Not sure how many hours are on the hull and/or engines. My partner Dale may be able to help with that information. In my opinion, the hull and paint/graphics are in great shape for a 1982 boat. No structural issues that we are aware of. Boat runs great. We had one blower rebuilt a few years back due to an oil leak. Other than that we have had no mechanical problem.
Dale, my partner on the boat, did all of the maintenance and he is a fanatic about maintaining everything he owns. You can address any specific questions about maintenance to him at the email address on the cc line above.

None of us had seen it on LOTO either, and I boat with Paul (Hawk40). Potentially a good buy.

Did Paul ever repower? What did he go with? My buddy has not run his yet with the Konrads, but im expecting it to run 75 or so with 650's.

Not sure... haven't talked much with him over the off-season. Drop him a line.

formula377 04-06-2009 03:31 PM

do you think the konrads will help gain speed or just durability?

fubard 04-06-2009 03:50 PM

it should be down there across from big thunder. we bought the whole set up house, boat dock and lift, Jack (the guy we bought it) from was going through a divorce, I think it was 93 or 94 and I had a 36 fountain both boats sat right across the gas dock at Big Thunder the hawk had red out drives, I was told that the boat came origally in 83 with 650 turbos it was a anniversary edition, I dont know, did have them in there when we bought it. I sold a Black 40 hawk down there too. is that around? and Chads Ole red 40 Hawk

formula377 04-06-2009 04:13 PM

formula377 04-06-2009 04:26 PM

Tempest 38 had a hawk i think it was black too.

formula377 04-06-2009 04:29 PM

I think I ran with you when you came to LOTO a few years ago. I had a formula 357 at the time. I think we ate lunch at Paradise.
You had 572's at the time didnt you? how much power did you have then? what were you running for speed then?

He sold that Hawk 40 to a neighbor of mine here in Derby, KS. That guy has since sold it to someone else and it may still be in the Derby/Wichita area. Not sure. T38 would probably know.

It was repainted, I do know that. Black/orange/etc... funky paint job, if I recall.

Edit: Here's the before shot and the new paint scheme:

Were you with Paul? That was a few years ago. I was around 600HP back then running 74. They are now 700 HP and I have seen 82.

As for the boat with Konrads. They are 1" shorter and should be a little easier to turn. The TRS didnt make it 10 hours with 650HP. I think the boat should be more reliable and quicker.

Here is a pic of both of them last year.

They both look great! Sounds like you should run well with a certain Fountain I know...

Any issues with either boat structurally or are they pretty solid? That's good speed for a boat that size. :ernaehrung004:

formula377 04-07-2009 08:57 AM

Yeah Paul and I go way back...or at least it seems like it! You can usually find us together.

What are you running for drives?

I'm surprised there's not more chatter on here about this Hawk 40 at LOTO.

fubard 04-10-2009 12:17 PM

is my old hawk still running around at LOTO (Red white & Blue) with red outdrives across from Big Thunder

Uncertain. A friend of ours saw the boat out on the lake a couple years ago but not last year.

Haha, I did not miss much on OSO while I was in St. Croix last week!

I am running IMCO's. I have had good luck so far. 78 hours on them. I got them used off a 32 Skater.

Im not going to make it to LOTO this year. Wife has other plans for us.

formula377, what did your old 357 look like? I might know you.

formula377 04-13-2009 08:51 PM

From the outside the 357 looked stock with factory plm beach colors. Interior and dash was changed to all white. Motors were changed to newer Fuel injected power. I had it in upstate NY from 2002-2005.

Do ya know me?

Jons 04-14-2009 07:43 PM

There was a Black 40 Hawk, top deck also was Black, with TRS Drives on LOTO in the mid 1994 1996 Does anyone know if it's still around. The picture of the Black one in this thread looks like Michael Albert's (MYCO Trailers) 40 Hawk.

fubard 04-15-2009 08:11 PM

I sold a black hawk around that time I think he lived on the laurie side it had teal stripes i think I use to work for Mid Missouri Yachts

hawk40 04-16-2009 07:54 AM

I haven't seen an all black Hawk on the lake.

spazboz 04-16-2009 01:13 PM

Close fit though!

Sorry, buddy. The story just sounded really familiar. A friend of mine bought a 357 Formula from a guy named Marc a year ago. The guy he bought the boat from was really interested in a late 90's Fountain that was for sale locally in his area at the time when he sold the 357.

Nick

formula377 04-17-2009 02:52 PM

I really enjoyed it with the new FI motors. It ran real smooth.

The Hawk now Orange is still local but a little North of ElDorado I believe. My Tempest is Black, my Hawk never was. And still trying to find more Tempests. Heard there was one in OKC but never heard more.

Don, is your old Hawk on the water yet? I assume, if so, they take it to ElDorado.

Tempest38 06-03-2009 07:17 PM

No. The couple that bought it from me and did paint, interior, and power had motor issues the frst couple of times out and sold it. Don't think it's been fixed yet. I'm sure it will be on Eldo when done.
