You are off to a good start.

Have you bought a transom assembly yet? I found new ones for $1000.

Yeah man thats what I was told is my fiberglass is kinda thick. It measure out to 1/2in thick. I guess that is good... :drink:

Erik

US1 Fountain 11-11-2009 05:53 PM

How thick was your transom originally? Plywood thicknesses?

I hope to be building up mine Sat, then lay some wood in Sun. Don't think I can put in 4 layers of glass at once do to the heat buildup.

I didnt measure but the outer fiberglass is 1/2, then it had 2 sheets of 3/4 plywood, and then after that a thin layer of glass over that. So I would say atleast 2 1/4in thick.
I just picked up a sheet of plywood and have to still get some resin, roven woven mat, etc. I will be getting a hand from 2 members on here since this is my first time. I would like to get the transom finished before the real cold weather hits us, then its time to build a new motor and buy much need parts....

Was able to cut both sheets of 3/4 plywood to fit in the boat nice and tight today. Then expoxy both sheets togeather outside the boat. They are drying tonight and maybe tomm will get it set in the boat and drill some holes to hold it tight to the back of the transom.
Oh big thanks to my buddy John "johnlx302" for helping me out today!

AIR TIME 12-05-2009 12:36 AM

you need to keep your transoms like they were new if you go with i/o other wise you run into problems with gimbals not fitting. a standard transom is about 2 3/8s or so. as a standard, I have to fill 4'' on my transom on the saber and was going to use a plate also, but konrad said it will not work for my set up. I am going with a konrad ace xfactor drive with ex box going to sell the baja as project boat it gave me 19 yrs of some azz kicking fun. now its SABER time with a DEAN GELLNER 572:coolcowboy:
