i am posting here,,maybe i can pass on some info,,or others can give some tips.
i am replacing main stringer and transom. i think the rot started at exhaust. i was told water leaks into transom, if ur hose clamps are not good and tight. well i guess thats how it started,,,but i will end it...hahaha

a tip dave goodmen gave me was,,,cut the transom with circular saw,,,of cousre set depth correctly..cut transom up into 6 inch squares,..much easier to remove rotten this way. it did make it easier i think.

When I was chipping mine out, I used an air hammer and a 2 inch chisel. I got one of the flat hammers for the air hammer and went to town with it.

Before I did that my hands cramped up and actually stayed clenched for an evening from swinging the hammer and holding the chisel. The air hammer was a much better route and much more efficient.

c-deezy........some of the areas some ''air'' may of helped,,,but most of it was honestly pretty easiy,,,,

i am totally amazed,,,,,,,,,,
i never expected this from a boat that was in a covered boat house on a lift!!!!!!!!

check out my putty knife in the transom,,,basicly just pushed it in there....lovely...

With the exception of some Klem gems i have had in my shop some of the Scarabs were the worst. Wellcraft left way to many exposed edges and those just act like a sponge over time. I have always thought that its repeated condensation cycling in a boats life that does it in, not so much soaking but that does not help. In my mind the wood breathes and exhales just slightly less then it takes in, through time it builds up. Having so many exposed edges makes it compound even more . . . . I have no scientific proof . . . just my thought anyway

well i can agree with u glassman dave,,,,on the main stringer,,at front and rear edges where cut it out for bilge pumps,,,the wood was totally exposed. i could see the two layers of plywood plain as day. definitely poor workmenship there. boat is off to goodmen this morning.

flash out............
