yes, see my above edit . . . an it was a Fountain. Actually mid 90's to early 2000's there were a few builders trying to make it work.

I assume its gel a friend had a launch incident that left a pretty good scratch that we were able to buff out .

When I was up in the Outerbanks in 94 building the big wood epoxy Sportfishermans ,I bought a 16 foot Carolina skiff that had split the outside skin down the middle about 7 feet.

being I had easy access to epoxy I repaired it with that and a week later gelcoated it.

That did not go well .The gel didn;t seem to ever cure properly where it met the epoxy.

Ended up grinding the mess off and painting it.

theres really not a whole lot in terms of use that would differ from a poly boat. its just when you need to repair it that it needs to be addressed.

What would be the advantage of a epoxy built boat ? if it is a foam core boat I could understand it having a better bond and shear strength over a vinyl ester boat but I am just guessing.

So what seemed to be the problem , Trying to keep the shiny stuff sticking to the stuff that kept the water out ?

Yeah I wasn't even boat shopping and it popped up on Craigslist a couple hundred miles away. Couple road trips to sea trial. Done !
