Epoxy or resin
Got a couple questions,
I am filling in a couple of holes 1.5" round the transom is composite, do I need to fill them with composite material or can I use wooden dowels?,
and do I use epoxy or is good old polyester resin sufficient?

Ayuh,..... Epoxy Is a resin,...... Polyester resin is more than enough for what yer doin' though,..... it's what yer boat is made of,....

What holes are you filling? I would think that you probably should glass it in using multiple layers that increase in size on a feathered edge. I think the ratio is usually 4:1 (IIRC) if you have a 1.5" hole, you would want to feather it 6" in diameter. If it's below the water line, you may want to use vinyl ester. Are you planning on gel coating over it or painting it? An ester-based gel coat won't like to stick to the epoxy without a good sanding a coarse grit, but then you would only get a primary bond (mechanical) and not a secondary bond (chemical) that you get with laminating resins.
