Seems that timing was the culpret in the second instance anyhow... Thats all. So c mon man it is time to spill the beans and let us know the details to this... Alot of us have been following the build.. If you can't get the prop situation fig out, sell the arny and put a # 6 on it... :evilb: If it has been this long to get it propped right, puking 2 motors, I would be looking into a diff drive set up for sure.. Its apparent that as bad ass as arnies are that there is something that it doesn't like about this boat.

Love that you are thinking the same way....

Please tell me how you and redline are blaming these engine problems on the Arneson? Sell the Arneson and put a merc on is going to make the engine live?

The engine builder has not stood behind the engine so the owner is in a pickle with, after paying for the boat but never taking delivery as the engine blew in testing, who is going to pay for this?

You shouldn't be upset because I am thinking the same as Redline( app you two have your reasons)

Where in my statement did I ever say the drive cause the engine to take a dive?? I didn't.. I said the engine prob took a **** due to timing, that a NA motor that big is more then capable of making that power.. If this was my boat, i was in this particular spot, I would def be looking into another drive set up, not be too happy at what has taking place.. He has tried a few diff prop setups, it hasn't did anything but blow **** up.. No it isn't totally a drive problem, but a prop situation.. But the prop situation is in part due to the drive it is on.. I am not dogging on the arni drives. I happen to love them, they are 100% proven on many boats out there.. Just in this particular instance, the combo isn't working out. That is plan and simple NO??? I am just saying a diff drive, # 6 would have the boat running, prob alot easier to tune, he could be boating.. Will it be as fast, prob not, but he would be boating.. As far as the engine builder not backing him on them, that is horse ****, unless he has done something to hinder or void a warr of some sort... I am not bashing you or your drive, but this is black and white man.... :)

I am far from upset, I am bemused.

You realize the propeller on the Arneson is the same propeller the Mercury would be using?

I do not know squat about how or why these motors failed. I received a phone call stating the motor melted pistons as the fuel management was not calibrated properly they felt.

Please keep in mind, the boat has less than 15 minutes + - on it with this setup with both motors. Six weeks after the first failure of the engine, the engine was repaired and reinstalled; unfortunately, it uncounted problems once again with an almost immediate effect. At this time the engine builder called it quits on the engine project as he could not afford to repair it again. The owner of the boat had paid for the boat as a running boat and he was going to receive a boat with a broken motor.

Also keep in mind the owner of this boat never drove the boat nor took delivery of it as the engine problems occurred while the owners of the boat company were driving the boat with the engine they supplied not the customer, be it however short the period of time. (so short they did not even get a chance to tune the injection much less try propellers)

So when you nonchalantly say “remove the Arneson and replace it with a Merc and go run it” it bemuses the hell out of me as to why? If the engine did not last long enough to even tune it how would they get a chance to dial in the propellers regardless of drive?

As I have stated for what seems like forever, this boat has an engine problem not a drive problem.

RIK let me first say have always been a big fan of your product .Why don't list all the single engine cat stuff that you worked on that hulled ass.I mean something like redline can relate to not a 30 skater. .After you list your results (Speed)you my quit some of the credsom you might even sell some drives. The cats that i know had single arenesons home them where(list)

26 howard cat(from your website)
25 carrera cat( from your website)
24 htm
26 American offshore
19 or 20 ft youngblood that i believe Mr Arneson did himself any any other ones you can thinK off.

These are the types of boats that are having problems and need a holy grail drive.

If you just list the hp and speed on these boats with your drive you would sell a ton.

I want to know how you can say the outdrive caused a poorly built motor to fail??? What a bunch of BS!! Even a #6 takes alot of prop testing to set up! RIK, dont listen to people that dont know what they're talking about. An Arneson is a superior product that I would love to have on any boat and will someday!!! There's a reason why Arnesons are on some of the fastest boats in the world. Also, they dont break!

There ya go Rik...He listed 5, anymore? I think what Fenderjack means, are other drives don't take running the engine up to 4000, 4500 RPM to get them on plane again I love the ARNESON Drives, but in certain applications...I don't think this was one of them...:party-smiley-004:

I have an Arneson ASD6 on a 1981 Carrera 20.5 Elite. This boat has had several engines from 454 na to 500 inch blower motors. The drive has had no failures and is a really cool set up. The boat planes easily and does everything right. It is a left hand rotation. I realize that this is not a cat but a shallow v. Rik might remember the boat, he rode in it about 10 to 15 years ago with a na motor. I was complaining about lack of top end and Howard was kind enough to invite me to his shop to check the installation. The installation was correct so the diagnosis was lack of horsepower. A blower motor was built and installed and the speed came as Howard stated. I can not even guess at how many early Bravo drives would have be broken over the years. Remember, this was before the XR or upgraded drives were available. Doug

Holy **** sorry about the spelling i guess i need to prof read before i post!:eek:I was on PB and saw that you posted about the 25 talon that ran 120 with a 1000hp defiantly not bad for a 20+ year old boat design! Tell me more about that boat .Is the bottom stock or been modified.

I'm beginning to like you but you sure are a slow study.

Cleaver propellers take more rpm to get on plane than a round ear. But I guess you already know this.

Oh, by the way, can you tell me if the propeller knows which outdrive is making it turn? :lolhit:
