Ram .... I replaced mine this winter and I would really pay attention to fit ....mine leaks on port side just below the rubrail ....I did not put it back together so might have been a bad install job ....if there was any question I think would place a bead of silicone or such on the gasket ....

thanks Off..

I am trying something new this time. it has been discussed on the board, but we will see how it works.
The platform glass /gel and wood replacement will be complete This friday.

I have been fabricating exhaust extensions. I made stainless round to square plate adapters for the back side of the square tips. i will be extending with marine exhaust hose from the thru hulls to these plates.

This will
A) eliminate the weight of water in the swim platform (which is the root cause of the failures in my opinion)

B) separate the exhaust pulses from starboard/port engines.
This was very annoying when idleing down the river to our favorite watering whole. the engines would slowly sinc in and out creating a buzz and irritated your ears.

C) keep exhaust from leaking out the transom interface (per your comment)

D) be a little noisier probably, bot not any more power output.
if too loud. i will take the extensions off.

I am not concerned about water ingestion as the thru hulls sit higher when in the water then the tips, and the chambers were open anyway so the path for water back into the exhaust in my opinion is the same. I will keep the square tip rubber flaps on.

I will take pics and have waterfoul post as I cannot post pics

I am thinking about removing the exhaust box area's ... in other words it would look similar to newer style platforms ...just not glassed in ... the exhaust goes thru the transom in traditional locations ...it would be major glass work on the box but I think it could be done ..... Also thought about kinda what your doing but change out the rectangle tips to round ..the centers could be the Siamese tips .....

formula did make a glass swim platform that was not silent thunder. it looked just like it from the side. can't remember where i saw it. a local guy is a Formula guru and has some connections with the porters. now that i recall, he actually had them dust off the molds from the "back yard" and had one made.

I may give him a call and see what the deal is on them. i think if a guy could buy the molds from formula, he could have a little "formula sanctioned" business with all the 80's boats out there.....

Ramb--
I had the non Silent Thunder platform on my 86' 311 Kamma boat. I think they made these for the Kaama application because the engines are mounted lower in the hull to accomodate the surface drive.

Maybe if you didn't try those circus stunts on Lake Michigan you wouldn't break your platform. Just kidding it sure did look cool!
Good luck on your new exhaust sytem.

i knew i saw one somewhere josh.

and yes. that flylevel incident was the last straw, pulling one side of the platform away from the transom upon landing.

the swim platform will be done at noon tomorrow. he (local glass guy in my town) did an awesome job. totally glassed and resin'ed in new marine plywood. reglassed and gelcoated around both top mounting hook areas.

I have fabricated stainless round tube to square plate adapters for the inside of the platform, and bought marine exhaust hose and clamps. Once i get the gaskets, I am ready to install my not so silent thunder.

platform should survive another 17 years plus without all the weight of the water. and it will be a little louder too. if i don't like it, i can take the through platform exhaust back out.
