242 Bimini Pics wanted.

Have any 242 owners got a bimini and side covers?

I would like to fit camping covers to my 242 but need to make the Bimini and have covers made to fit.

I need details of the position of the Bimini fitting.

Pictures, dimensions, etc.

Any help appreciated.

Did your boat ever come with a bimini? Mine mounted on the top of the side windows with straps hooking to the front of the windshield and straps going to the back.

My 242 had a full enclose with clear plastic side/rear windows, but that was BEFORE I became a member of "Cuda's Rangers".

It was before I "saw the light"......:drink: :drink:

Now I just get hot and or soaked. :D :D

But I am safe from the wrath of the Cuda.....  :D :D

There was one on boattrader forever with a full camper canvas. Real pretty paint job on it too.

Re: 242 Bimini Pics wanted.

My 242 has never been fitted with a Bimini.

I am hoping to buy the Bimini from Formula.

I have e-mailed them to find out if the windscreen on the Fastech models are the same width as the 242. (Awaiting reply).

If it is then i will order one and then get the side panels custom made in the UK.

I was thinking of having Black material. Has anyone got any experiences to share regarding black cloth?

I am not a fan of Bimini's myself, but i do like to stay over on board at the weekends and could use the additional space created by the camping covers.

SO STOP TAKING THE P*#S. :drink:

If you live where its really warm and sunny most of the time, I would advise against black. The temperatures under that black material will become unbearable.

I think Cuda has a black full-length storage cover. He lives in Florida. When the local Pizza Hut is really busy, they bring the uncooked pies over to Cuda's boat and slide 'em under the cover for like 8 minutes.....................done!! :drink:

Ah, but it's just a cockpit cover. It's only used if I have to leave the boat in the water overnight (poker run). Even the mooonlight in Florida ain't that hot!  :p

Cuda,
Have you ever replaced your cockpit cover??
Thinking bout takin mine to the local top shop and duplicating it.
Just wondering if yours is still original. All these trips to South Florida has beat thte hell outa mine.

No, I had it made. I didn't have one when I bought the boat.

Buddy and I checked out that boat last spring. Not to offend anyone on the board here if it's your boat but,,,,,,, broker claimed boat was perfect. Drove from NY to Mi to check it out. Lets just say it certainly was not "perfect". That resulted in me verbally biotch slapping that broker. Needless to say, no deal was made.

It is a very nice color scheme though. Quite rare and eye-catching. Too bad though. :(

You want to make the height tall enough to stand under. Then once the height is determined you can decide where you want the bimini to lay. This will determine where the bimini hinges. To give you an idea, here is a picture of a camper canvas that was put on my old scarab.

Hi, I have a full set of camper canvas / bimini rig on my 89 242 ss, if you are still in need of some pix I could rig it up and snap a few.

I'm not sure where the prev.owner got it made but it's all like brand new right now, I've only had it up once to inspect it and it spends the rest of its time pretending to be a radar arch.

Hi Activox,

Id still like to see some pics if you dont mind.

Id like a close up of the attachment points of the Bimini along with dimensions of the framework to enable me to construct my own Bimini & camping covers.

Thanks.

Jon.

Heya R-Don,

I finally got off my butt and took those pictures I promised, I put them up at http://www.activox.com/bimini/ if you want to take a look. When I get a chance I will go out with the tape measure and give you the exact dimensions of the mount points if you like.

I didn't get a chance to zip on the rest of the camper canvas to take pix of the full setup, but I do have the manufacturer info from the tag. The photo I took of the tag is crap so I wrote the info down:

Aldon Industries, Sarasota, FL
Model: 088656302401
Date: 10/7/88
No: 205

Sending along one pic in the thread, check the link I posted above for a couple dozen pix at different angles and etc. Hope this is helpful, will post up the dimensions here tomorrow.

Aaron

Guys ....please ...all respect to the pics here .....but Geeeeeeeeeeeezzz ...why do they have to put the Bimini about 8' above the boat .. I am seriously thinking about a top but no way could I do that ... I seen a cpl that are low profile and dont look to bad ... I also talked to a guy that builds "T" tops and when I get a trailer plan to let him look at the boat. But I want to be able to remove the top so not sure if that will work. before I got my 311 I looked at a 272 down in Melborne and the guy had a custom top made and it really did not look to bad. Also had lights mounted.
We go out alot in the late afternoon and get back after dark. You need some lighting to flash the "protection Pilings" for the Manatee ....
More pics if interested

Yes, just no type of top allowed when under power.

Kinda like adding onto your house. As long as it's not a permanent structure it's okay. (And you don't need a building permit.)

Here's a picture of bimini I had integrated into radar arch. I've used it a few times in really lousy weather or when sun is more than we can handle. I think it looks lousy but it's there if needed.

Hopefully cuda will gimme a pass on it--
