242 SS Mystery pump ???

I recently bought a 1991 242 SS and am in the process of going through everything in preparation for the season. On the port side rear compartment where the battery switch is located, I notice a device that looks like a pump of some sort. It has been disconnected (wires cut) and appears to have been put out of service some time ago, but left in place. There are 2 wires and some clear flex hose hanging from the device. It does not seem to connect to anything else. I cannot see any markings.

The hydralic pumps are all in the engine compartment where they are supposed to be. So, I am wondering what this mystery device may be? Any 242 owners know for sure?

Thanks in advance,

TPenfield

Maybe a pump for the sump under the step in the cabin? Any pics?

May have been a fresh water washdown for the transom/platform area. Any signs of a fitting on the transom?

Hi Tpenfield,

I think you will find its the trim tab pump and by the sounds of it its been disconnected. Is the boat still fitted with trim tabs?

Do they work? If so, they must be working off a different pump. If not then you will want to get it fixed before the season.

Good choice of boat. :D

Not the trim tab pump, because it has the Bennett pump in the engine compartment along with the outdrive pump. They all work fine. The tubing that is coming from the pump is 3/8" clear and of the low pressure variety.

Transom shower may be a possibility, but I do not see any evidence of a shower device around the transom.

It may be an after market device, but it sort of looks like it was meant to be there. Perhaps I will take it out for further investigation.

How big are the hoses, and about what size is the pump? I'm thinking an electric fuel pump to get gas out of the tank and into a jet ski?

Sounds like an air horn pump to me.
My 303 has an air horn pump located on the port side near the battery. 2 wires, positive and negative and the clear tubing should go to the horn itself.

Does your boat have a horn that works?
