Clearance for Dart Manifold
Need some help here..
repowering 1990 242LS with a 540 Ci motor. Does anybody know if a Dart manifold will fit under the hatch or how much room is available. My boat is currently covered for winter and won't be available untill March Thanks Sheikman |
I measured the clearance under the hatch of my 223 with a stock 330 hp 454 and I had almost 10 inches from the top of the stock flame arrester to the bottom of the hatch. Not sure if a 242 is the same, but I assume it is similiar. I am in the process of building a 454 and wanted to be sure a single plain and a taller spark arrester would fit (which they will on the 223).

On my 86 LS242 there is at least 8 inches clearance between my 4" K&N flame arrestor, atop a Holley carb, atop a Dart Kool Kan intake(same as a edelbrock air gap) on a small block. I think you'll have plenty of room.

I installed an HP454 with a Dart intake & Procharger blower (enclosed carb box) in my 93 252 Sunsport. This combo should be the same height as a dart intake, carb & flame arrester.
I had plenty of clearance for the carb, manifold and blower box, but had to raise the front edge of the engine cover 3/4 inch to clear my intercooler. This is easy with a hand saw, stapler & 1x2 wood strips & carpeting.... just remove the seat cushions (on mine anyway) & cut the wood to fit, wrapped the pieces in carpet & screwed them down to the edge of the carpeted bulkheads. Reinstall the cushions & its hard to tell anything had been done (if your carefull). Unless you have a real "high riser" you should be ok. You could just measure the manifold height of a stock intake & the Dart. Call Formula tech & he can give you the clearance as manufactured. ;) |
