I am going to replace mine with either plastic or something like that. I wat to redesign it as it is a little bit of a sqeeze to go in there.

Take it to a plastics distributer near you and ask for a replacement piece. they may be able to drill the holes needed for the hinges and hardware, and kerf the inside of the bend and create the bend where it overlays the door.

Otherwise ask them for suggestions on drilling and routing the material. I think the bend does have material removed on the inside, and have heard of others who've laid similar plastic over a concrete step and heated carefully with torch or heatgun at the bend, and let gravity work on it.

Either way, please report back, as I'll be changing my black to white soon.... DOH!!!! If you don't find what you need, I may have a black one available soon.... Sounds like Audio may too, and between us we've got both versions of 302's covered.

That's great on the repair. "Audio" is AudioFN, the member who posted the first response to your question. He's got a 1979 302 that still has the original fiberglass in places, but not much else. He's kind of a legend around here for not knowing when to stop "renovating" his boat. I've got an 85 302, and it has a different deck, windshield, and cockpit than his. What year is your's?

You might consider looking at a late eighty's boat (242, 272, 292, 311, 357) at their hatch. It is hinged in the middle and might be less likely to hit your head. That same thing might be incorporated into your hatch.

Finally, welcome to OSO. Alway glad to have more Formula 302 people around here.

Heck, I just saw you have an 85, like mine. I guess reading really is fundamental. Too bad you did not break it later. I'm going to change my hatch and door to white in a little while, and that will make my black hatch and door spare parts. We might have been able to work something out.

If it is the same hatch as for an '83 272 we just had one made and don't need it. I broke it on a big wave and had a new one made. But, before I could replace it my dad went and traded it in on a new 400 SS.
