Shakedown cruise successful!!

Finished wrenching at noon on Sunday. Boat in the water by 1:30. Rebuilds are done and everything appears to be working fine. Engines have more snap, a lot crisper on the throttles.

Our last round of work went from a bare, machine shop finished block on Thursday night to fully installed and running by Sunday at noon. 90 degrees all three days, hotter than hell working on that boat. Also tore the "good" engine back down partially to install cam thrust buttons. Axial cam shaft drift destroyed the cam in the starboard engine two weeks ago. Took no chances on the other one. Zoomed in both engines with the cam buttons to .020" total axial movement.

This project has kicked my a$$ and I'm glad (and I hope) it's over. I'll need a few more weekends with no issues to get my confidence up but I think it's all good.

For all you river-rats up in the Bay, we'll be up soon. :drink:

Xclnt news!!! Thursday we go into OIM, we'll have to get together over the weekend. Maybe see if the River Rats will poke their 35 foot noses and beaks out of the river and come see us in the pond. My weekend was spent at high school graduations and associated parties

No problem , God knows I've had plenty of shakedowns...not all good either :(
I've been fighting a problem with one engine all season and the problem was the other engine . The left was running slow so I've been trouble shooting the left engine for the past month. Turns out the coupler on the right engine has been slipping causing that one to run fast. Well you don't fix something that runs too good do you :o

Hmmmm, couplers,,,,,,,,,,, Looked mine over while they were off and I said to myself, "Self, you ought to change those out before they go south". However, budget constraints and time issues made me take the gamble. I hope they hold up for a while. I'm gonna kick myself right in the a$$ when one of 'em spins out. I'm just going to take the "don't think about it" attitude for now.

Like Outlaw said, I've got lots of wax-on, wax-off to do. Took Julie and I a couple of hours just to get the dirty, greasy hand prints off everything. Came out nice though, no lasting nasty spots.

Why are ya spendin' time gettin' greasy handprints off Julie, shouldn't the boat be the priority right now? Wax on , wax off! How's the inlet to the pond this year? Can we expect to see you there over the weekend?

A thorough examination of mine looked good too .
Splines were nice...no rubber hanging out the edges.
Oh well , hope you have better luck.
Mine should be here by 10:30am Fedex , then it's off to work again. (sunny , hot , humid and no shade till about 3pm)

Always right in the gutter aren't ya 5P?? :drink: That's what we like about you guys.

Plan is to be on the beach by 5:00 Friday afternoon. But, I really don't want to hang there all weekend. We need to cruise to someplace. Be nice to get the "Boathouse Bums" to come down for an overnighter on the beach. Nice big fire, cocktails, munchies, nudity, :drink: :drink: :drink:

Maybe I'll grab Axa for a dance. :p

Let's check the weather and maybe make those plans for the Pond this weekend! Maybe Sunday to Monday? I'll be waiting by the phone...or maybe I'll have the phone on next to me in the helm!

I'll see if we can hook up with 5PM and set something up. Maybe we'll cruise up and meet you half way, that would be a nice ride.

Re: Shakedown cruise successful!!

Hey shakedown, where were ya this weekend? We were in the pond most of Sunday and looked everywhere for ya. Weekend was awesome. Marina life is cool in Oswego. :drink: Very little dock angst going on. All the cruiser and powerboat people pretty much just rag on the blowboaters. Alot of Thurston and Lovey's there. 24' blowboat and these people act like they own a real yacht. I thought WE did alot of dik'n around at the boathouse, these people spend two days lookin' at it and an hour usin' it. They have a regatta every Wednesday evening so I'm gonna go up and tune my throttles for awhile. :D So what happened in the bay this weekend? I heard Axa made the little woman walk the plank or somethin' like that. Is it true Rip was creating content for other portions of OSO. Do we know what the diagnosis is on the beeked vessel?

5P,
We were at the Pond all weekend and Monday. We were over on the north side of the channel out where it widens. Nice spot. Looked for you but never saw you. Expect you were down the beach on the lake side.

Boat is running perfectly. Cruised to Oswego for the fireworks Sunday at about 7:00. Didin't see your boat anywhere.

What's this about Axa's wife walking the plank? She fall in or something?

Re: Shakedown cruise successful!!

Mrs. Axa is Ok from what I heard, rumour has it she wasn't even under the influence. When we went to the pond Sunday we saw the boats by the channel, but not specifically yours. That's not your normal spot, we figured you'd be in hangin' on the 'toon boats inside. Sunday pm we were at our dock in the marina, D11, it's the last set of docks as you come in, there's signs on the end for you transients. We need to exchange cells, I'll PM ya. Great weekend, huh?
