2006 400 SS with 600 available
400 SS with Merc 600 -How fast ?

Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
In this article, they procharged a 400ss w/ 502 mags, and it went 66mph.
http://www.procharger.com/M_profiles.shtml I'm guessing that the Merc 600's would be in the same ballpark. |
Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
Make sure you get an extra drive with it !!! :evilb:

Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
A 400SS with 525's runs up to 59-60 mph on smooth water with the wind and 5 people. With these 600's, the xtra 7-8 mph costs almost 5K per each MPH over the 525's. I am not sure if the leap is worth it??
I guess if you have the cash........ |
Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
I thought I read somewhere 62 m.p.h.
|
Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
RedDog, you are correct. we just sold a 06' 400ss with 525s, with an arch, but no hardtop the boat ran 63mph gps first time out. 1 person and 100gal of fuel.
|
Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
Formula website says "to over 60 m.p.h." with 600's.
|
Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
based on the number "Juked" mentioned - The 525's seem to be the value then at 63mph- Just don't take a party out with you at speed and the twin 525s will keep within eye sight of the twin 600's until both are out fuel. Sounds like a 5-7mph difference.

Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
Everyone one has said the 600's are only good for 2-3 mph top end on most boats over the 525's.
|
Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
So then that begs the question- why? What was/is the thinking behind the 600's as a power-plant? Surely not for the extra 2-3 MPH- what am I missing?

Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
Detuned version of the 750hp package Mercury will be coming out with including a new drive between the bravo and #6
|
Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
It's actually going to be a 725.
|
Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
Mercury will be finishing up the testing for this motor in the next 30 days hopefully they will have it finalized for Miami. The HP for the engine can be either crankshaft or prop shaft, like the HP500 was 470 propshaft HP

Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
They still need to put a bigger gas tank in the damn thing, no matter what engines you put in it.

Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
AMEN!- 4 hours and your empty!

Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
Lots of conflicting info on the new Merc 700/725 package. Some say it doesn't exist. just a rumor. Some say Merc is holding their cards till Miami. I actually have no idea but a customer is ordering a new 382/600's and heard the rumor,he wants the new package if it exists. In all fairness, what does Merc want me to do? I will hold the order till I get the real story, but it seems unfair to Formula to have to wait. But we will wait, my customer's desire comes first.

Re: 2006 400 SS with 600 available
Mercury did this to all the boat manufacturers a few years ago with the introduction of the 525 as well. Gave them no warning, then instantly obsoleted everyone's inventory of 500EFI boats.
I'd still go with the Volvo 350/DP diesel package. Cruising speed is just as fast, and you get 1.5 mpg in the process. And a drive that won't break. |
