Last year, I moved from the Ohio River to the Chesapeake Bay with a 292 FASTech. The 292 is a great boat...decent speed for stock power, nice ride, outstanding quality. I never used the cabin on the Ohio River since my marina was 10 minutes from home. When I arrived at the Chesapeake, most of the performance boats were larger due to big water. So in April, I traded up to a race-prepared F-2 382 with stock power. This boat was incredible in every way except it did not have a cabin and I rarely had time to use it due to a busy work schedule this year. At the end of the season, I sold the 382 and just recently picked up a used 312 for about half the investment. That makes three FASTechs in seven months. If next season is anything like this year, I won't have to worry about having six figures tied up without using the boat. It is also nice to have a cabin again with the size of the Chesapeake. Unfortunately, I can't give you any advice between the 292 and 312 until the Spring when I get a chance to make a fair comparision. The boat feels bigger, but I will be interested to see if there is much of a difference in the ride (with 1,000 pounds more weight and one less step). I'll keep you posted.

I had 312 2000 with 454 and it ran fine. I just bought a 2005 292 6.2 and I like it much better, and yes it is just alittle bit smaller but it rides sweet and the motors run great. But mabe it is the differance in years and updated technology and ammenities. Myself I would go for the 292 it has a better ride.
Just my opinion

I have a very clean "04 292 for sale. Ck the classifieds. Really need to sell. Great boat, hate to part but family is growing. I run with several 353's and 382's, and no it is not as fast wide open but cruises with them, easier to dock and maneuver, and when we pull up to the fuel dock they are all jealous . Very comfortable boats. Warranty till '09.
