242/hp500

I believe someone on here has or had a 242/hp 500 combo. Just wonderiing how the performance is. I friend has a 242/502/Mag and gets an honest 62 with a labbed 24' Bravo.
He just picked up an HP500 short block , fresh rebuild , heads still need doing. He's still missing some acc. like carb , intake , rockers , push rods and valve covers. Thank goodness it's still December..lotsa time left up north here

I've got some good used 500 parts ...Heads, rockers, pushrods, cam, lifters. Let me know if he's looking for a good deal.

The previous owner said he saw 70 with it. When I go out, the boats full of friends and fuel, so I'm not sure what the top speed is. The mid range punch is what I enjoy. My neighbor has a '82 232LS that just had the 454 rebuilt. You can really feal the difference in power between the 2 boats.

.My buddy was told about 65 by the previous owner on the phone from 300 miles away. After driving 6 hours to sea trial it on Lake Ontario in October ,the truth came out. Four of us in the boat and it struggled to hit 55.
After a prop change from a 23 Mirage to a 24 labbed Bravo ,two people now got an honest 62 and picked up 6/7 mph at 4000 rpms and 5/6 mph at 3000 rpms
