Hi all,

My wife and i are leaving the UK tomorrow to live, work & play in Dubai in the Middle East.

This means an all year boating season and about 200 pounds to fill the tank compared with 500 pounds in the UK!

The thing is, i am leaving the Formula 242 in the UK as the cost of shipping it out doesnt make financial sense. So, i will be on the look out for a new (used) boat once i am settled in.

I may be after some advice guys.

What you have to remember is that as an Englishman, we have lived with terrorism on our doorstep for the last 35 years in the form of the IRA!!

So the Middle East is not much different.

The good news is that there is no Marine Industry out here in Dubai, so plenty of opportunities. The bad news is that there are very few marina berths available at present and at least ten people chasing every berth currently here!!!

There is no doubt that i will have to import a new boat as there is virtually nothing available at present.

Gas is oh so cheap its obscene!

Oh how i want a Hunton XR37 - Pure class & British to boot!

I know you guys are suffering from higher fuel prices in the USA but we have been paying crazy prices for fuel in the UK for years now.

Filled the hire car up at the fuel station today. . . . . £12.00!!! Thats about $24.00!!!

The last time i filled the car up at home in the UK it cost me £56.00!!! thats about $112.00!!!

To fill my boat up used to cost me £500.00 a go in the UK, thats about $1000.00 a time!!! Here in the UAE it should cost me about £180.00 to fill the boat up!!!

Who cares if you get killed by fanatics when you can afford to boat all day and then some more?

Quality not quantity.

I realize the rest of the world pays more than us but it's a blow to our economy and personal finances to have it jump SO much , SO quickly. Moneys got to be taken from other necessities
