Default 525 sc mercruiser

Looking at a 382 with mercruiser 525sc engines, bravo drives and wondering if anyone knows anything about this engine package and it's reliability and what additional mods can be performed on this engine to do even better. The engines at present have 371 hours on them.

Have a friend here that has a '98 382 Fastech with this engine package. Blower whine sounds SWEET! He turns about 76 m.p.h.

These motors are 454 blocks and not very amenable to power upgrades. The blower is actually "small" and will not evenly distribute a fuel charge to the cylinders if modified. You would need to go to a dual carb set-up.

Troutly is right on with the drive advice. More power and you will be popping drives like bubble wrap.

My advice ... refresh only as is.

have built many 525s nice turn key mtr will need valve springs within the next 100-200 hrs if you want to keep it turn key dependable dont do anything but the valve springs and get the drives gone though the 525 is ripe for upgrades but the price is dependability!!!

good luck with what ever you decide and if I can be of further asstantce you can email me and let me know

What brand of springs would recommend and the engine have not been run for at least 8 months but it was fogged out correctly. What would you think a cherry 95 would be worth fully loaded out,a/c.latham external steering, wipers, full cover ect.Has no trailer and that will cost me $10.200.00 for a new loadmaster. Bob

alot of time people put a 2- 3\4 " pulleys on the top to up boost. it will shorten eng. life some what. if the pulley is the same size as the snout it has them.
