I just bought my 271 fastech last fall. The stock 502 mag mpi would turn a 26 bravo 1 up to 5000 rpm. This winter we got new eddie marine exhaust, cp performance mpi upgrade & some gouges repaired on the running surface. We will be putting the boat back on the lake next weekend & I can't wait to see how she runs. The mechanic that did the work said that it hit 5200 -5300 rpm on the short test run they did this winter. So I expect to jump up to a 28 labbed bravo 1 to bring the rpms down to 5000 or so. what prop & rpm will your boat turn? From what I have read & heard from a few people on our lake is that Throttle Up are top notch. They can give ya good info.

Most of our testing shows a stock 26 Bravo works best with 496HO. For some reason lab props seem to slip too much on a 271. We have tried 24,26,28,both stock and labbed. 26 stock seems best in most cases. Can't explain it except to say that propping out some boats seems more of an art than a science.

I used to turn a stock B1 26P about 5000 rpm (Arizona temps and 1500 ft above sea level). Since then, I've added a supercharger and am still fooling around with prop options (hence, this post). Note: My drive ratio is 1.65:1.
TU does a good job. They set me up with a P5 26P that literally jumped the boat on plane but plowed too much (not enough bow lift). They cupped it for me which helped but still doesn't lift the bow quite enough. TU is still working with me. In my opinion, they are top notch.
I have a labbed Bravo1 4 blade coming tomorrow from ebay (may have re-considered given Magicfloat's input). Too late now but I figure I can sell it if it does not work out. I still want to keep working the P5 though. The low and mid range performance is very good. Knowing what I know now, I may have gone with the P5X.
cstobe - A stock 26 to a labbed 28 may be a wash in terms of rpm. Let me know how it turns out. I'll do the same. Hopefully Magicfloat will be wrong. JK Magic.
