Default Anyone have over 500hp in a 382 ???

Looking to build motors for my 382. Currently running 500EFI's with 8 psi Prochargers. While it's fast, I don't want the blowers and plan on rebuilds this winter. The article about the 382's in the new Powerboat mag has me concerned.
My plan is to build 540's, keep the EFI intake system, roughly 9.5 to 1 compression and aftermarket heads. This should get me in the 620-640 HP range. Magicfloat claims a new 382 with 600's runs 84 (but that maight be with boxes). The Powerboat article claimed 79.XX.
Anyone with 500+ hp willing to provide me with your real world cruise and top speeds? I'd hate to drop this kinda money for just a few MPH.

Russ,
I'm running bone stock 525's with Boxes and have yet to seen 80. I usually have the boat loaded with weekend stuff under the bow and a full tank of gas. I also have the genset which adds some weight.

The actual Spyder boat in all the ads and on the Formula website is on a lift in my boathouse,600's,Stellings,gen and air,84 GPS all day long.Ran it in our Poker Run in late July,5 people, near full fuel,80-81 Gps whenever we needed it. Maybe the California Powerboat guys don't know how to stretch out an Alabama Formula

Robert,
Do you think the stellings make that big a difference? 1-2, 3-4 MPH? You know what I have.....if I can make 640hp with the new mills any chance I'll see 85?

BTW: The current motors should red line about 5,500......At 5,000 rpm's w/ full fuel, water, gear, 5 people we saw 86 GPS!!!

29 labbed Maximas, boxes maybe 1-2 mph on a 382,slightly better handling, but not that big a deal. You should see 85 based on the info you gave me on your future engines. But all of this is part science, part art, you never know Good luck

28 Bravos??? I would think with that HP you would run bigger wheels. Didn't think about putting nose cones on my Bravos, any guess as to how much that would help? (I don't have extension boxes) Did you try the props out vs in? On my 312 spining in the handling sucked...

Thanks,

Russ C.
