I'll be doing my first overnighter this weekend on my first boat..Any suggestions..Also has anyone ever made some sort of cushion section to go between the two bench seats...

I have, I screwed two pices of wood to the sides, just underneath the cushion and cut two boards to fit in. They slide in an out very easy. Find some foam 2-3 inches so it will fit flush.
It`s tight in a 242

I've done it in my 311, looks like the only difference in the cabin is my sofa is bigger, the v-berth is actually comfy, but it depends how many you are sleeping in there

We did several 4 night trips in out 312 (very much like the older 272). I even added A/C to the cabin. Also did a couple overnighters with 3 KIDS!!! They slept on the benches and one in the floor or, out on the cockpit floor with the cover on. I built an extension the the bed because the cushions ran flat to the bench seats. It doesn't look like that setup would work on yours though.
