Bob...Maybe you mean the "311"...My buds 312 Fastech runs upper 70s {GPS} with 454 mags...A 311 is a HUGE boat and very heavy. Wave crushing tanks for sure.

Personally, out of those choices, I'd pick the 311. It will be older, but you will have more choices in your price range. You won't find many newer ones of any size in that price range, unless they are hurricane survivor boats.

Sure you don't want a 302? I just downsized from a 302 Formula to a 22 Donzi.

I was kind of wishing I had taken the 302 to the Donzi Hometown Rally last weekend when we hit Tampa Bay.

No way the boat ran those GPS speeds without some "extra" work somewhere. I just sold a 312 with 502's. Although it needed a few nicks fixed on the bottom and could have had the props tuned for a little more bow lift 73 was the best I ever saw on GPS. (70 on those 98 degree summer days) Mind you I was running 30HP more per side. I still say scrap the 292 option......a 311 (or even Cuda's 302 ) would be the best bet.

Here's the spec sheet on the 312 from Formula. Its a little hard to read - I copied it from another old posting. If you open it up full screen, you can read it ok.

T 454/385......69-72 MPH
T 502/415......71-74 MPH

and BTW: Others will insure these boats, I have had State Farm for both the 312 and the 382. (boats must have stock power and not exceed 75 MPH)

When I was looking, I talked to my state farm guy and he contacted their underwriter about a 312. They would only take it if it had the 330s'. Said they didn't want anything faster than mid 60s, which is an improvement from where they used to be! Must be the difference in which underwriter happens to answer their call.

he's running 1.65 bravos (they all came that way) and 30 pitch 4 blade bravos.
If he has changed air cleaner, exhaust, labbed props, changed gears, or some other "extras" then it's possible....but like I said,it's not "stock" anymore......maybe he just has one that somehow the bottom is wrong but works just right, good for him!!!

Yep...1.65..didnt know they all came that way....all stock except air cleaner
It didnt change a thing. I helped put them on. His "speed" props are 30s
"one hit wonders"is what Cavanaugh called them..
Like you said...He just got a strong one but....it is a long way from.."lucky to get 70 with 502s" that started this conversation. That sounded like a 311..
