Hot d@mn I bought a 311!!!
Last week I figured I was out of it, I was looking hard at a couple other options, but I signed the check yesterday after the sea trial.
I was turned off a little bit by the colors at first, but now that I realize it's a 35th Anniversary edition, and a few differences from the earlier models, I think I'll be happy. I will be nervous about the high hours on the engines, but the seller is just too meticulous to pass up this deal. He said he turned down a substantially higher offer because the guy wanted to keep it in the water. He's glad it's going to someone like me who will appreciate it
"it's a small world" story: the guy lives on the same canal as my dad.
It needs some TLC, starboard water hose is leaking and has rusted the inlet a bit and caused corrosion around the fuel pump. But it doesn't look bad yet and I'll get right on that. We also noticed a little oil pooling on the intake manifold; I'm concerned, but will start with hitting the bolts with a torque wrench and see if they need a snugging.
It's gonna be at the marina for a couple weeks until I can find/build a trailer. I've got TONS of questions now
Headed down there now to snap some digi-pics.
Can't thank everyone enough for all the help so far...I'm just getting started...
Thanks,
Michael

Nice one Mike.....congrats!!!
did you buy the 311 with the same colour scheme as mine (pink, yellow & turqoise)..???
Mine is a 91 with the 35th anniversary badge on each side as well!!
you wont be dissapointed, dont worry too much about those little rust spots or the odd pool of lube, it may be just some protectant to stop rust, i know i used to lightly oil parts of my engines that weren't covered by paint to stop that horrible surface rust!!!
Let me know how you get on with it, you have basically got the exact same formula as me so i'd be interested to know how you find she rides/handles?!
Cheers
Steve

Steve (Blitz), we have sister boats! We'll have to compare HINs. Although you've got a bit up on me with your 502s versus my 454s.
It's 1991 with 454Mags turning Mirage 23Ps. The seller has seen 69mph GPS. I can't believe what other stuff I found-complete set of belts, two impellers, bunch of gaskets, spark plugs. One of the biggest things for me was the original manuals, in their original binders, in the original bags. EVERYTHING is in there including a congratulatory letter from Formula. I've got to go out for dinner tonight but I've got plenty of reading to do.
Thanks,
Michael

It looks real good, i was exactly the same as you when i first bought mine, i wasn't sure about the colour but it had the right set up and was what i wanted and to be honest the colour has grown on me and most people like it....strangely enough...my missus loves the pink....
I have all my binders too complete with all the manuals from 91 and the congrats letter from Mr Formula!!! I even have the original bill of sale for $115,000 and the shipping cost to UK of $2,500 back in 91.
I'm glad you went for it, it will put a smile on your face!!!
I'm hoping to take mine for a run this weekend if the weather holds, got 40mph+ winds forecast for next couple of days but weekend looks ok but only going to be about 60F so it probably will be wooly hat time at 70mph.....
Cheers
Steve
