Default Cabin room in 382

Looking to move up (for a while now ). Its been a while since I have been in a 382. Thought I remembered that Formula listed the cabin headroom at 5 Ft 2 inch? The head compartment in my '89 292 SR1 is shall we say smallish.

Have been looking at (and almost bought) other boats in the size but I keep coming back to the 382.

We are day boaters in the 1000 Islands so we won't be living on it.

Comments from 382 owners?

Magicfloat: sending you a PM.

Thks all

5'1" is the headroom. My wife and I overnight in it quite a bit. I've actually had 4 people in it overnighting. Wouldn't consider doing it without AC. As far as room goes, I think it's plenty.

Thanks for the reply.

I have looked at a few taller cabin 38's but keep coming back to Formula for the quality, style, ride, resale, etc etc. Noted re: the AC. It would be a definite in case we did want to stay on board.

My wife and I have 2 kids (7 and 10) so it sounds like plenty of room.

Too bad my wife doesn't like the graphics on the MN boat or I would be checking that one out.

Anybody know how hard it would be to install a second set of bolsters? Cost?

Huge dollars, and I mean huge dollars. Plus, there goes all the cockpit space. Unless you're a poker-runner, I don't see a second set of bolsters as good for anything, except of course, emptying your bank account.

Give Formula a call and ask for a price, you'll chit yourself!!

Randy Sweers has the '04? poker run boat with a windshield and with 2 sets of bolsters, 100 hrs.

Do I have this right Robert?

We moved from a 312 (about the same size as your 292) to a 382 last year....LOVE IT. The A/C can be installed later, but look hard for one that already has it. We overnight with 3 boys (5,8,10) 4-5 nights a summer and around 10 more w/out the kids. Don't even get hotel rooms when we stay places that have them anymore. I'm 6'1" and use the head regularly. Typically back into it as that is easier but have no problems completing the tasks needed.

Thanks for the input. I'm 5 10 and my wife is 5 7 so it shouldn't be a problem.

As for the bolster thing, just getting tired of my wife saying she rides "in steerage" when we are running the boat.

How huge is huge $ for the second set of bolsters ($10M$?).

The more I think about it the Formula is my fit for the reasons above and also to handle some of the big water and washing machine affect we get around here.

Rippem: I'll check the fastboats site for the '04.

I don't think I would like the second set of bolsters. I would think it would make it hard to move around and access the coolers, side storage compartments etc. The nice thing about the Formulas (vs some other boats) is the large open area behind the windshield. It might even make getting in and out of the boat a little more difficult. Just my .02.

I second the second set of Bolsters.....no way I would have them in there. A buddy has a Black Thunder that did not have the second set of bolsters. He even removed the side-by-side seat form the drivers seat to make it a 2 bolster and back seat only cockpit. PERFECT that way! Plenty of room to move around considering most of us avoid running hard in big water anyway.

Steerage???? Doesn't your wife occupy the first mate's bolster? My wife doesn't give up her bolster for anyone. Nor should she, it's her boat too.
