Default HOLY @#$% engine/platform help

MY 206 seems destroyed to me in my eyes...I jsut finished installing my new long block 350 everything was going great until I went to start it...no fuel so me being an idoit instead of priming the right way I pour somr fuel into the carb...well to describe what happened I have never heard of before. It sounded like a shotgun went off in the back of my boat...the worst backfire out my exhausst ever on the planet...it cracked the fiberglass on my platform and almost completly blew it off. my cell phone that was on it shot up about 10 feet in the air...my question is 2 parted

what the hell can I do about this plaform now as the upper hooks are where the damage is..

and what happened to the motor...i knew it wasnt' timed perfectly but I thought it was close, I have been off 180 before and havent experienced this...so give it to me straight what are you thoughts to what happened. was it the feul into the carb or the timing? and how bad is the damage..

ps carb has fuel now :-(

check your firing order, if it back fired and did not start could be your problem. I have seen a few large backfires from this.

I bet it is the timing, but DO check the firing order as well. I've seen some pretty bad backfires from timing, and that's the first place I'd go.

Timing. When I was putting together the 454 in my Corvette it backfired so loud it sounded like a gun shot. Hopefully you didn't stretch the timing chain.

ok so update:

Got motor started without platform. The distributor was out 180...One would just assume that when the engine manufacturer send you the engine, it would be in the correct TDC well now the engine sounds a bit loud one one side I am hoping it just an exhaust leak and will be changing it out tomorrow.

Does anyone know what size tip I have to get now that I will be running without the platform for a bit? I still haven't taken the old tips yet...that looks like FUN! will post the pics of the platform later!
