310SS power
Anyone know what the largest power option is for the 310 Sun Sport. I know it's not meant to be a real go fast by nature but just curious as to what is available and how well it pushes it.

The 310SS is a nice looking boat! I was on one at the Annapolis Boat show last fall.
The formula website lists retail prices with various power options (those prices seem a bit high!)
http://www.formulaboats.com/models/1107163-prices.aspx
Boattest.com has an article (though registration is required)
http://www.boattest.com/boats/1394/test_results.aspx
Test Power: 2 x 320-hp MerCruiser MX 6.2 MPI Sterndrives
RPM MPH KNOTS
3000 25.0 21.7
3500 32.6 28.3
5100 49.6 43.1

Thanks for the link, Split. I saw the 330 on boattest. I missed the 310 somehow. I can't figure out how boattest got a faster speed out of the 330 with the same power. Looks like the 310 may have been a little under propped or geared wrong. I"m wondering how either boat would do on top end with Bravo 1s and the right props compared to the B3s. Might be a bad compromise tho. I think I would like to see either boat bump 60. Plenty of full size cruisers running 50 now days.

AGAIN, I'D LIKE A FACTORY RESPONSE FROM JPORTER AS TO WHY, IN THE SS31, MORE POWER THAN 320HP IS NOT OFFERED?
AND THE SAME QUESTION IS APPLICABLE TO THE SS33, I.E., WHY IS THE TOP POWER ONLY 375HP?

JIM,
We do hear a lot of people asking about bigger twins in the 310SS, however, we have decided to leave it at twin 320HP because it creates a stepping stone for selling. It allows the customer to afford a 310SS and in the future step up to a 330SS with twin 496's. The 310SS is just a dayboat for us, its not meant for all out speed like a FASTECH or Supersport would be. It is a great boat that performs just as well as the 330SS except for top end. The same principle applies to the 330SS. If you have anymore questions feel free to message me or put them on the site.
Thanks,

Jim, thanks for that input from Jeremy. I guess I just don't fully understand their logic. Again, I'm not looking for an all out go fast but even Regal has a full size cruiser that easily tops 50, actually 53 according to boattest.com. I think it's a shame that the sportiest looking Sun Sport can't approach 60mph. The 330 with 375s would be OK, we just prefer the cockpit layout on the 310 a lot better.

It's Strictly A Price Point Feature, Pure And Simple. I Can Understand That Aspect But, I Can't Imagine Not Giving The Customer What He Wants As Options. This Is America. I Want No Mayo, Extra Mustard, No Onions Etc. Like, Heellllooooo.

Yea, I just don't want grandpa on his Regal 3760 going around me in my "sport" boat.
I think what they're tying to do is keep the 330ss alive without having to retool and update the cockpit. When I look at the two boats, I see the 310ss as being the sportier and faster of the two. Bad perception on my part. Well, I doubt I change their marketing structure so I guess I'll move on, lol.
Thanks for the info, Jim.
