Default Dealer Challenge!!!!!

So I made an offer to a dealer on a 02 292 Fastech of 55K. They denied it right away. They then challenged me to find a 292 for less then 69K. Their asking 79 for it currently. As many of you have responed with upper 50's to low 60's as to what it's worth. My response to them was that the 292's for 69K that are out there have the 6.2's in them. This one has 350's and correct me if I'm wrong it's around a $7000 upgrade from 350's to 6.2's, so that brings the price back down to low 60's. Also these boats have been out on the market for over a year and aren't moving.

I love challenges, so if anyone knows or has seen a 292 for sale for less then 69K please post the URL or direct me to where I can find it, so I prove the dealer wrong. No offense to the Formula Salesmen on OSO.

If you really like the boat then 60 ish isn't bad.....In August. If it were April the boat would be worth even more.

Most of the ones I've seen advertised start at 69K. Tell the dealer that classified ads don't set the market price for a boat, selling price does.

With that being said, I wouldn't waste time playing games with the dealer. Tell them to call you if they reconsider and then move on with you're search. A lot of the 292s advertised on boats.com and boat trader have been for sale for over 6 months. Start calling on all the ones you like and see who's willing to deal. Someone will want to get rid of a boat. Plus, once the dealer sits on that one for a while they'll probably change there tune.

When I was looking at 292s back in Feb - April there were several boats (some very clean/low hour) that could be bought with trailer for upper 50s, low 60s. And most of them sat on the market for a while at those prices.

Online pricing is useless. My '02 353 was listed for 45k more than I bought it for.

Do they "own" the boat, or are they "brokering" the boat? Big difference. If they are brokering the boat, and you want to play this game, tell them they should be presenting all offers to the owner.
My boat was brokered, through the dealer. I paid 25% less than asking price.

Even though online pricing, "asking" prices, etc. aren't final prices, you have to use something as a starting point.
Just a quick look at NADA shows that even a 292 Sport with the 2x260hp motors "Low Retails" at 60k. If it's a non-sport, with 2x300hp motors, it shows 63k.
If it's dealer owned (took it on trade maybe?), you probably won't get them below low 60s.
If you want them to actually consider you, you need to have financing and insurance ready to go, or be paying cash; prove you're a serious buyer, they might seriously negotiate.

The salesmen told me that the owner bought a new 310 SS from them, so I assumed he traded it in, but he said he talked to the owner and they agreed on a price of 63500, which is around right. The only thing is they orginally offered a special financing package of 2.99 for 1st two years and then 7.25 after that when the price was 75K. Now with this new price the package is no longer available. I figured I'd start low and work my way up, since I figured it should go for 62-63 range, so I just picked 55 out of the air and figured I'd see where we met. I hate when they play games.

I bought a boat for 50 that was advertised for 69 a couple years ago. They said that was too low.....so I made sure they had my number and to call me if things changed. A few days later he called expecting meto change my offer, I didn't. A week later he called again and said come get it. They are hoping you will change your mind just like you are hoping they change theirs. Don't get "antsy" with your money, pay what it's worth but be willing to wait for the right deal.
