I want to pass this on about ants in your boat, found out through being in the landscape business that ants will eat only rotted wood, they will NOT eat good wood only rotted wet soft wood so if you have ants you might have bigger problems elsewhere. Hope this helps

Nice progress on the old Bird, you've done a ton of work. It's cool to se how people's projects come along, keep posting.

How did you determine the height for the outboard bracket? How will you know if the engine sits too deep or too high?

Are you going to paint it too or use it as more of a "beater"?

Hi Tbird, thanks for the kind words.

The bracket came with a large clear plastic template. On the template there are directions. Deadrise, transom angle and shaft length are the variables used for correct placement. Its was easy. I wen the extra 2 miles. Once I marked my locations I used a 1 1/2 hole saw. This left me with 12 nice holes in my transom. I then filled the holes with epoxy/cab. Waited 48 hours and then drilled 3/4 inch holes. This will pretty much gaurantee no water gets into my new core.

Some say its anal, but I say its worth it after seeing the damage water intrusion can do.

I plan on painted it. Once everything is sorted out, Im going to give it a sweet awl grip paint job.
