Default Thoughts on a race fairing

I am looking at a 382 on OSO with a fairing. What are your thoughts on the fairing vs the windsheild?

Would anyone be willing to trade for a windshield?, or know of a place to find a replacement? I have searched the site, and found posts about replacement costs of 16k. The fairing is factory, from formula, and is white. From what I have read, the fairings are rare, only a few made.

What are some options besides finding another boat for sale with a windshield?

My .02 I like the fairing, kinda looks more "offshore" than recreational. My friend has a 41 with a fairing that looks great. I wouldn't spend 16K for a windshield.

Depends on the weather and where you boat. My '99 Poker Run Special had a factory fairing, but I put a stainless windshield on it as the weather on the Great Lakes can get pretty wicked fast. Just back from the SCOPE run in LA and the fairing would be nice to have there. Still have mine in storage and won't part with it.

Where did you get the windshield? Did you have to make any mods to install the fiaring, more holes,? OR can you interchange both units with the same mounting system?

I am wondering if the boat was cut on or drilled in a way that would be visible with the windshield on ?

I bought the windshield from another OSO member who took it off and custom fabbed a fairing. The holes didn't all match up, but the frame did cover almost all of them.
