trim spcaers
Well, I moved the trim spacers to where Merc recommends them and damn what a difference!! I needed no tab at all to get on plane, good thing since these bennets are useless!!!! All I can say is everyone who has a 292, change the trim spacers!!!!!!
Now, i need to get my props matched, balanced and bluprinted and we are good to go!!!! |
That's it, I'm changing mine before it goes back in the water. Those Bennets do not belong on these boats. After playing with them all day on Sunday, I think I wore the rocker switches out!!
|
What are trim spacers and how do you adjust them?
|
Cool, I figured you would like that!:D
fastmcars, see post #11 in the thread below... http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=186896 |

Just my opinion, the dealer should do it for free, then turn the bill into Formula. I think I can understand why Formula does this, but I completely disagree with it and it is not the way Merc recomends the spacers be put in. BUT, if the dealer will not do it for free, it is a simple DIY. Takes about 15 minutes to do it. |
I looked but couldn't find the spacers, could you or someone post some pictures off what you need to do or a detailed instructions.

Here you go...
Just remove the plastic caps, tehn with a 5/8' open wrench, remove the lock nut on one side, then wiggle the threaded rod out to release the tir bar and trim cylinders. That will expose the spacers. then put back together. The most difficult part is alligning up the cylinders and tie bar to slide the threaded rod back through. When finished, do the other drive. Should take about 15 mintues to do both drives.:D |
Well, low and behold I went to change my drive spacers, and they were in the foward position. Very strange why my 07 would be in the corrected position. While I was back there we installed the Rex Marine drive showers. What next, I'm out of accessories to install. :D

Here is one for ya. The rear grab handles that a rear seat passenger would use...in my boat, they are white plastci and do not match any of the other SS grab handles, so I got some new SS handles to replace the plastic ones...will be in for the weekend. You can see the top halves of the plastic ones in the pic just in front of the reaer speakers.

I have already ordered and received new powdercoated cup holders w/ neoprene pads to replace the white plastic ones under the white plastic flip lid on port & starboard sides. Please let me know on the grab handles as much as possible. I've been inquiring to change them for the past year! Thanks in advance. |

Shame, If ya don't mind me asking. From where did you buy the grab handles and what size where they? I wanted to purchase some powdercoated ones but could never find an exact match to the white plastic ones Formula uses.

I ordered the Grab Handle- Fat Series. They are the 6 inch Conoured Grip handle and you can get an assortment of colors. I paid 34.00 apiece for them. I will install them Thursday and take a pic for ya. If you are interested in them, My suggestion is order them from Bill at Diamond Performance. You will probably get a better price and the service through Bill is better then going straight through Eddie marine. Also, I suggest call Billinstead of orgering through his website. Nothing wrong with the website, I just like talking to whom I am buying from. Bill |

Well...um I am a bit pissed at myself! I measured the outside od the factory white handles and figured, these are 6 ", SO I ordered 6"...after starting the install today, the bolt holes from the factory are about 5 1/2 inches...so, so I re-drill or send the handles back.... Damn!!!!:(
Oh man, that sucks! I don't think there are any grab handles out there smaller than 6". Do you really want to drill holes in your new boat??? I'd probably send them back and live with the white plastic ones unless you have a better alternative. Let me know. |

I already drilled holes for the transom trim switches...but, I can't be sure that the old holes for the handles would be 100% covered...so yes, i will return them...:( BUT, I am still on the Search!!!! |
I have thought about this and have a solution. Make a base for handle to mount to and have the base mount to the 5.5" hole alignment. Just a suggestion. I'll have my bimini top mounts back from the machine shop this week that I started a year ago to make. I didn't like the ones from formula, so I had some flush mount ones modified for the curvature of the windshield. I think they will look very sleek when finished, however it has only taken me 4 different machine shops and 1 year to complete.

Can you tell me on my Bravo 1X which way the spacers should be? I bought a 336 with 525's and when I hit the 80 MPH mark the boat did roll a little. Are Bravo 1X's the same as Bravo 1?

You shoul dhave XR's with the 525's, out little 377 have Bravo X's. Look at the link to the diagram and it will show you where the spacers are and if they should be moved. let us know if you have any more questions on it. But it is very easy to check the spacers... |

They are new X's sorry but what link are you refering to? I ran the boat tonight at 86 MPH and still roll's a little. That is the top speed.

Anyway, go back to pos 4 in this thread and you will see the link. Then when you click on the link, scroll down to post 11 and it should be there...:D |
Also, FAst357, I do not think that by changing the trim spacers will aleviate roll at WOT. This does help with planing time though.

Got the call from my dealer yesterday stating that my new 292is in. Being curious as to whether or not Formula put the limit pin in the forward position, I took a look. To my amazement the limit pin was already positioned in the forward position. Cool, I don't have to mess with it.
I checked out a '02 292 and the limit pin was positioned aft. Somewhere between '02 and '08 model years, Formula made the change on the limit pins and started positioning them forward. |

I figured it out the trim gauges were not set right. I thought I was trimmed up a certain number and I was really not that high. I fixed that problem now no more bow steer. These are 525 SC's.
