I've had the props off of my 2004 292 (bought as a new leftover in 2006) several times to change the lube and have noticed that the hubs look different. As you can see, one is a typical bravo style plastic while the other is a solid metal style with rubber cushions on the corners. Until now, I assumed that the metal one was an older style "pressed in" hub. But I finally took a closer look and decided to give it a tap with a rubber mallet. To my surprise it slid right out. Does anyone know which style a 292 should have from the factory?

As I suspected, sounds like Formula uses the better "solid" hub. While it was on the dealer lot, the props were removed to prevent theft. I figure someone either lost or grabbed the wrong hub when they prepped it for delivery. I'll be making a phone call to Formula tomorrow morning.

Here's a question - Lot's of other guys with big blocks (lots more torque than 6.2's) run the plastic hubs. So they should hold up fine in a 292.
Also, if you ever whack something with one of the props, seems like the plastic ones could be more forgiving. I'm thinking that a plastic hub could avoid drive damage and possibly cause less damage to the prop.

Formula TAG rep confirmed 292's include solid hubs from the factory because that's what Merc supplies with the props. Although he could not recommend otherwise, I think he agreed that composite hubs would work with 6.2's.
The dealer parts guy admits that the composite hub was probably wrongly installed on one drive before delivery and offers to sell me another composite one so both hubs will match - gee thanks! Finally, he suggested that composite hubs are the way to go if you boat in shallow water....less damage to the drive if you hit bottom.
Mercury rep indicated absolutely no problem with composite hubs at 320hp. He said they've been used forever and would not fail. He also agreed that composite could be the smart way to go to avoid drive damage if the prop struck something underwater.
So that's the deal. I haven't decided what to do yet...maybe I'll contact the dealer again. For now I stopped by a local marina and picked up a used composit hub for $8 bucks.
Thanks all .....for your input.
Enough words...time to get out here.
