Default with scorpions

how can a 292 with scorpions run at 78 to 80mph when the motors are rated 350hp. the 6.2's are rated at 320hp and the boat only does 69 to 70. there is no way that 30hp can make up a difference like that.

Ratings are just that, ratings. The Scorpions were killer motors. We probrably sold as many or more 292/Scorpians as any Formula dealer and all of them GPS'd 78-80. These were great motors ,rated at 350, but actually way more. If you ever get a chance to run one,you might change your opinion. I actually had one that we did a lot of prop testing with, got GPS readings of 81 several times.Believe me or not,but they were strong during their day. High octane fuel and engine price killed them. Blue paint is expensive, folks were hesitant to pay that much for a small block.

Don't remember exactly, maybe 04? Formula had nowhere to go,292 is a small block boat,so the 320's were all they could offer

I have talked with other 292 with Scorpion engine owners and depending on props they have a top speed of 76-79 MPH.
