1990 292 project that I've been working on for a while now. getting close. hope to splash it next weekend. Still have a bit of wiring and all the upholstery to take care of. Its '08 Formula White, with '08 rubrail and decals. Motors are new Volvo 5.7GXi's with new DP-SM drives. Just waiting on a tie bar and some hardware for the external steering. Heres a couple of pics from before and one recent. Let me know what you think. More pic's to follow.

Nice. Thought it might have been a 292 from the "Show us your Boats" thread.

Hope those 5.7s are enough to push that big boy. I don't think the 292 was ever offered in small blocks, at least I've never seen one.

Interested to see how it performs.

hatch off 07 353, blaze graphics. Will be cut to fit the 292 and the rest of the interior will be made from matching vinyl thru McLeod. Switching in linear actuators to make bolsters powered.

The 292 is a twin sb set-up; can't imagine bbc's...stern heavy??

spazboz 08-17-2008 08:42 PM

All the 292's we looked at for my friend last year had 454's. We looked at a 272 with 454\365 also.

Its the older (non-Fastech's) that were able to run big blocks. And by the way the boat looks great. Of course I'm a little bit partial to anything with Blaze graghics on it.

spilman 08-18-2008 09:02 AM

Nice work!!

That makes sense...I do recall the older boats being t/bb. Thanks

spazboz 08-18-2008 10:28 AM

I REALLY think it looks sharp how you painted the K-planes to match the drives! The Planes look awesome in Silver Metallic!

BowenCT 08-18-2008 10:33 AM

^^^^^^ I agree, looks killer!

Are those the 270hp or 320hp motors? The duoprops will probably do wonders for getting her up on plane. You sure have to let us know how she runs. I wonder if there will be enough weight taken off the stern to consider getting rid of the hook at the end of the hull?

They are the 320hp.

I'm not sure what I will do with the rest of the boat, but the two different gray/silvers and the red match my motors and drives well. The hull will stay white till I decide what I want. I am painting the raised portion of the bow with the same paint I did the K-planes with though.

Few more pics. Used spray foam so I had something easy to shape. Worked very well. The fairing is 3 1/2 inches lower in the front than the glass was, but I kept the same height on both sides until just past where the grab bars/supports mount. This way I could reuse all those pieces without any additional work.

The fairing took me more time than all the rest of the boat combined!

Three layers of glass later and a coat of primer and this is what I ended up with. I didnt have the heart or the energy to take any pics of this step, which happened to take over a month for me to complete.

Few pics of the gelcoat process. What a ridiculous amount of work. But of course by the time I was finishing it I was starting to get a lot better. Thanks to glassdave for all the helpful advice on this step. Gel'd the bottom first, but couldn't resist shooting a bit on the windscreen to see what it looked like white.

Well time for some more pics, whether you want to see them or not! The bilge was painted with sherwin williams tile clad epoxy enamel. The floor, hatch bottom, and around the hatch opening was all done in super liner bed liner. Medium gray.

Lots of similarities between our projects. Thats my first time reading that thread, but I saw a pic of your boat on another post and thats where I stole the idea for the white dash. I thought about making the fairing like you did so that it could come off, but was unsure how to mount it and how strong it would be. I like the way yours looks though. Great job on the resto!

Yours looks way better than mine ever did. I really like how you took the time to mold in the dash and the fairing.

Very Nice Work!!!Crazy amount of WORK...but when that boat is finished you will have so much sense of accomplishment, you willhave a hard time ever parting with it. I still have a 78 Switzer I rebuilt from the split hull & deck.....Not even close tothe amount of work you have...Looks great man.
