Getting the rest of the new stereo gear in and adding a battery charger. I'm also going to remove the windshield and re-seal it. I've got a lot of leaks under it now and we'd like to replace the black rubrail with a white one. Hopefully we won't have any engine work to do this summer...

BEWARE OF THE BLACK BIRD!

boatinbill 03-06-2002 07:51 PM

Blueprint the hull, add a sternjack and reporp accordingly, I want to see an honest GPS'd 77mph with my 271

M2 03-07-2002 08:57 AM

Add trim tab indicators. Don't know why it the 271 comes without them.

Any suggestions on what type to install? I'd like to use the existing trim gauge which has an empty slot on each side. Are these slots for trim gauge indicators?

Boatinbill,
I see your also have a 99 271. Do you have trim tab indicators?
What do you think of the trim gauge? Can tab indicators be added? Let me know how that sternjack works out.

Audiofn 03-07-2002 10:18 AM

M2 Not having ever seen the dash layout on your boat, is the one trim guage you have for the drive? And is it a mechanical guage? Are your trim tabs Bennets or K-planes?

So far this winter:

Replaced engine
replaced transom assembly
replaced outdrive
removed bottom paint

still to do
paint
redo interior

Rambunctious 03-07-2002 04:18 PM

so far this winter:

completed pole barn to house Formula out of the rain
pumped up boat tires
charged batteries

it's almost Spring, I better get busy!!
next steps:

1) lab finish props
2) find random intermittent short in starboard ignition. ( im hot wiring right now to coil)
3) drill holes in silent thunder
4) fix/replace drive trim indicators ( without spending $600 at eddie marine for new mechanical indicator setup) any suggestions?

here is a pic of my dash and one of the trim indicator (enlarged but lost some quality)

the trim indicator is for the drive. it is mechanical and i have the whimpy bennett tabs.

the drive indicator is in the middle slot and the outside slots are
empty.

if possible, i'd like to use the same indicator gauge and just add
the trim tab indicators to the outer slots.

Audiofn 03-08-2002 12:16 AM

The outer ones are for you tabs. So if you have K-planes then you are set. All you have to do is call gaffrig and ask them to sell you the pointers and the cables and the addaptors for your k-planes and you will have a full array of info. :D:D:D

blown formula 03-08-2002 02:46 PM

:D , just refinished the engine compartment & added full hydraulic helm (steering) with Marine Machine ext cylinder. Awesome stuff they make!.....reinstall engine (Gee...which one....blown or unblown???)
Then sell the boat & spend the summer learning to drive my new (2 me) 312 fastec twin blown engine "lake cruiser" !! It get's delivered in April.

I don't know if I can stand it or not, I guess I'll just have to bear up under the pressure!:D

You'll be luck to get two out of six done.

formula271 03-13-2002 03:17 PM

I had my ECM reprogrammed by Energized Fuel Injection and I bought a K&N filter with the billet adapter from Rex Marine. Also I have a Hydromotive 4 blade prop to try this spring. Hey M2 what are you running for power in your boat? I have a 1999 271 with a 502 running a labbed (local prop shop) Bravo 1 26p.:D

M2 03-13-2002 06:14 PM

Formula271
Power is a 500hp carb, running the factory Bravo 1 24p. I just had it labbed (at a local prop shop) and haven't tested it yet.
Runs 68mph all day whatever the conditions or load. 70mph (GPS) is tops when conditions are perfect. Hope the labbed prop will help it see 70 regularly.

Yeh, but as long as #6 (use the boat more) is one of the two things I get done, I'll consider it a success.
