Whats up everybody, I've been lookin for some 38 or 42's and found a 2001 382 fastech with 496 HO's. the boat has a gen, shore power,a/c, and vacuflush. this is what i'm lookin for but how about those 496's? will the boat be a little underpowered with all those options? what do you think it would run top end speeds?I run in salt water so cloosed cooling is a plus with theese. any input would be great....

Only upgrades for 496's ,add two sets of exhaust headers -costs about $3K to $6K per motor which would add about 70-80hp overall to the boat, based on the boat your looking at about 4-5mph or thereabouts. Add the Raylar 103 kits to the motors at about $9K per motor with 200HP to the boat and you should see about 10mph more out of the boat!
Put a supercharger on the motors at about $9k per motor and then start a savings account for about $8-$10K per motor when the stock engines suffer the END, with this 250HP more inj the boat you may see +12mph after you put about twice as much higher octane fuel in it!
Bottom Line, there are no free lunches in performance boating, if it is to go Faster, it will cost MORE!
If someone today wants bigger performance and really can't afford the cost of real upgrades, they should set their sights lower or buy a boat that gives better performance with avaiable power at a lower cost= less boat!
Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

496's should push the boat to the upper 60's......I'll bet big it can't hit 70. It will however be a better ride than the Fountains and the cabin is noticabley bigger than the 42 Fountain. (the Fountain will be faster for sure, depends on what's important to you)
